The Curt hitch part # C12221 that you referenced is confirmed to fit all models of the 2013 Toyota Matrix so it will work well on your S model.
One of the most popular cargo carriers to use with the hitch is the Pro Series carrier part # 63155 which would be a great option that measures 20 inches by 47 inches.
