Question:
I just purchased a 2016 Volvo XC90 with the factory towing installed included hitch mount, 4 way and 7 way electrical hookup and software. I need a brake controller and from what ive read - it sounds like the Prodigy RF is the way to go. I also read about possibly needing to sync with a domestic vehicle and I can come up with one for this. My question is, a do you think the prodigy RF is the way to go and b is should i get the 7 way adapter for LED lights that the german cars seem to need. Im pulling a light trailer, 2016 Aliner Classic, under 2k lbs loaded. Thank you!

The Prodigy RF part # TK94FR is a great controller setup that would work well for your 2016 XC90. We have seen a few issues with pairing this controller on Volvos but there are a few work-arounds that are pretty easy to manage.
Make sure that the 7-Way is fully functional on the truck by testing it using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993.
First, If you do not see displayed what the instructions say just keep going through the steps. Sometimes it will not display what it is supposed to but it will still work if you go through the steps to completion.
If that does not work then you can try taping off the pin in the 5 oclock position at the back of the RF (where the trailer plugs into) using electrical tape. Then go through the installation process.
If that doesn't work you may need a 7-Way to 7-Way adapter, # 20142, which will put more load on the system and could allow the RF to pair up properly.
And if all of the above will not work then have another domestic vehicle with a functioning 7-Way parked right next to your Volvo and pair the RF using that vehicle. Then just move the handheld unit to your truck and tow the trailer with it and it will work.
