Heavy Duty Flasher Needed for Trailer Turn Signals to Work when Connected to 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

I have installed curt harness 56078 on my Hyundai santa fe 2012 the brake and tail lights work on the trailer but not the signal lights the signal light keep working on the vehicle but not the trailer I unplugged from the trailer and put a tester in the signal out lets of the harness and the show the power flashing on and off with the signals I also hooked the trailer up to my truck and everything works fine their. my owners manual for the car say you need a different flasher when you hook up a trailer but my mechanic did not know what they are talking about. any ideas?

A flasher is the device that you hear clicking from under the dash when you have a turn signal on. Some vehicles do require a heavy duty flasher in order to have everything work properly. A heavy duty flasher can be obtained at an auto parts store. It will replace the stock flasher that is on the vehicle.

A Hyundai dealer may also have a specific flasher for this purpose.

Something else that might work, instead of going to a heavy duty flasher, is to switch the trailer over to LED lights. They draw much less power than regular incandescent bulbs so you would not need a heavy duty flasher. I have included a link to the LED trailer lights we carry.
