Question:

we currently have a pre 2007 model hydrastar 1600 that will not work with the GM integrated controller disk brakes I was told that the new model Carlisle will work with the GM controller is this true?

GM factory brake controllers are not directly compatible with any electric-over-hydraulic brake actuators, but some manufacturers have designed adapters that allow them to work. The new model HydraStar electric-over-hydraulic actuators will work with the GM factory integrated brake controllers as long as you also install the Control Adapter Module, # HBA-CAM, with the actuator.

For your situation, you actually have two options. You could purchase a new HydraStar Disc Brake Actuator, # HBA16 and the adapter, # HBA-CAM, and install them on your trailer, or you could use an aftermarket brake controller, like the Prodigy P3 # 90195, and bypass the factory brake controller.

Since your truck came with the tow package, installing a brake controller would be fairly simple. I have attached a few help articles on installing a brake controller on a GM truck for you to check out.
