Some of the Carpod cargo carriers do sit very close to the end of the hitch receiver. To be sure that the cargo carrier will clear your 2012 Infiniti QX56's bumper, you will want to take a quick measurement on your vehicle. Using a yard stick or dowel rod held at the rear-most point of the bumper, you will want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the trailer hitch receiver to the dowel rod. This will let you know how many inches are needed for the carrier to clear the back bumper. I've attached a help article that will walk you through this.
The Carpod 24x48-3/4 Walled, Folding Cargo Carrier with Lid and Bag # M2205-01-02 is a great option for a hitch mounted cargo carrier. Additionally, since this carrier folds, it is designed to sit further away from the vehicle than the fixed model. The # M2205-01-02 offers 14 inches of clearance between the center of the hitch pin hole and the closest part of the carrier when it is folded flat. The extra clearance and folding feature are great benefits to this cargo carrier.
The fixed Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier with Lid and Bag # M2200-01-02 offers only 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier.
I have attached a link to all of the Carpod carriers we offer, as well as a review video of the Walled, Folding Cargo Carrier # M2205-01-02.
The Carpod Cargo Carriers do require a trailer hitch to have been installed on the vehicle. Based on my research, your 2012 QX56 came with a factory trailer hitch already installed. Because all of these vehicles came from the factory with a hitch, none of our aftermarket hitch manufacturers make a trailer hitch for your vehicle.
