Recommended Cargo Carrier w/ Storage Cage

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/01/2025

Question:

Interested in a FOLDING walled carrier easy on-off- one of them tilts down and would hopefully give access to 2021 kia soul hatchback, another folds up next to the car but then no access?. So folding and tilting would be ideal, and easy on off.

Hey Laura. The 24x60 etrailer Enclosed Cargo Carrier item # e54VV is going to be your best option. It fits a 2" hitch and has a alignment collar that automatically lines up the shank and hitch pin holes after you get it set up. It's pretty easy to remove if you have an extra hand to help you. The carrier and cage do weigh a combined 106 lbs.

The 24x60 etrailer Enclosed Cargo Carrier item # e54VV measures 61-1/2" wide x 25-3/4" deep x 31-1/2" tall with the cage installed. The spacing between the bars is 6" so you don't have to worry about anything falling out. The carrier does tilt down as shown in the picture below.

What kinds of gear and supplies are you transporting?

Hey Laura, how did the 24x60 etrailer Enclosed Cargo Carrier work out for accessing your Kia Soul's hatchback?

@JerredH It was so low it scraped on ANY incline, even when empty. I solved that with a 6” riser that has 7,500lb capacity even though the Kia can only take an additional 200 lbs above the 100lb carrier. Then it bucked violently and I solved that with two rattle braces. There was at least 2 inch clearance from the open hatch back door so the tilt feature was redundant. With the riser there is now 5” clearance- needless to say it hangs a long way off the back of the car. All in all a very inelegant and overly expensive and stressful purchase that could hardly have been a worse match for my vehicle.
