Question:
Instructions are easy, but not clear. Please answer the above question. The instructions in note four say to unplug center black. My center is gray. My vehicle is a 2001 Tribute. Step 3 reads from the passenger side so my understanding is green and red wires are on that side

I hope I can clarify any confusion for you on the T-One wiring harness installation. When installing the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118343, on your 2001 Mazda Tribute the step 3 in the installation instructions is on the passenger side of the vehicle.
On the passenger side you will connect the T-One wiring harness to two points. The top connector (black) is for the running lights and brake signal which is where the T-One connector with the red and brown wire will connect. The middle connector (gray) is for the right turn signal which is where you will connect the T-One connector with the green wire. You will also have a separate white ground wire on the T-One wiring harness that will need to be grounded to the vehicle on the passenger side.
The instructions from the manufacturer must have the colors of the connectors reversed. To be sure you might want to check the functions of the taillights before you unplug the connectors from the taillight. You can use a circuit tester like the Quickee Tester, # 3808, and probe the back of the connector on the taillight to test for the correct function.
I am sending a video of the installation of the # 118343 wiring harness on a 2003 Ford Escape which is the same vehicle as the Mazda Tribute. It shows in the video the top connector is black and the center connector is gray.
