Cable Lock Recommendation for Yakima Light Rider to Prevent Disassembly Theft
Published 07/08/2016 >
Question:
I purchased a trailer hitch and bike rack from you. I have a security issue with the bike rack. Its the Yakima Lightrider 3. The only thing that attaches the bike rack mast to the lower hitch attachment is a screw which anyone could remove with a small wrench. Im looking for a locking hitch pin. Or something that would fit. The span would be 3inch and the diameter is 3/8. Yakima said no one has ever stolen a rack by un screwing the screw. Really. Thanks.

I understand your concern about theft and I can help you with a solution that would work, but we also have never heard of someone willing to disassemble a bike rack like your Light Rider to steal. Not saying it would never happen but it's pretty unlikely.
That being said what you could do is use a cable lock like # e98891 and route it through the wheels and frame and then back to the safety chain loops of the hitch on your vehicle and you would essentially be locking the bike to the hitch.
