Question:
Hello. I recently purchased a brake controller and the attaching harness assembly for a 2001 Ford Expedition. I have disassembled the drivers side of the dash and cannot find the factory plug. Ive done significant research on this by and have read other posts that say the connector may be under the center console OR behind the glove box. Neither of those areas are easy to access and require significant dash disassembly. I really dont want to continue tearing things apart without some clear guidance. Is it possible this vehicle did have a pre-wired factory harness? vehicle had a 4 plug connector on the bumper, BUT it does have all of the required wiring for connecting in a 7 pin adapter as per your other videos and instructions. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I spoke with one of our installers and he informed me that the factory port you are looking for will be towards the center of the dash on the driver side. It will be located within 6 to 12 inches of the OBD II port. If you have the bottom panel removed on the driver side of the dash and are looking in and up towards the center of the dash you should be able to see the plug. It won't be hanging down, and may be tucked away behind some other wires. The color of the port should be gray.
In addition to the brake controller and harness, you will also need Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 37185 to complete your wiring. Installation of part # 37185 is detailed in the FAQ which is linked below.
