Measurements Needed When Replacing Leaf Springs On Trailer

Updated 07/06/2016 | Published 07/05/2016

Question:

My current spring is a AL-KO 93115. It is 3000#, 25.125inch length, 1.75inch width and 13inch axle location. I want to upgrade to a 5-leaf spring and was looking at the e34SR but the axle location on it shows 12 5/8. Does this make a difference?

Knowing the exact length of a double-eye spring can be tough, especially if the spring is still on the trailer. The best way to measure them is to remove it from the trailer and measure center-of-eye-to-center-of-eye. If the springs have been on the trailer for a long period of time they can stretch by up to 3/4 inches.

The eye-to-eye measurement for part # e34SR is 25-1/4 inches. The spring capacity is 3,000-lbs and is designed for an axle up to 6,000-lbs. You mentioned that the axle location is 13 inches versus the 12-5/8 inches for the # e34SR. Most of the double-eye springs we offer have the same 12-5/8 distance from the center of the spring to the center of the eye, and I believe the e34SR will work for your trailer. It is always good to replace both sides of the trailer to make sure you have equal suspension and performance.

If you cannot find springs that offer the same dimensions for the hangers on your trailer you can have the existing hangers cut off and new ones welded in place.

I have attached a link to a helpful article about trailer suspension you can check out.
