Question:
I need a winch to lift deer. 1. It needs to be able to hold load if handle is let go 2. It will get very muddy and wet. So i need one that will take the elements. 3. Rated for 500lbs. minimum. 4. Free wheeling. 5. Able to use the fiber rope. I dont want to use the steel rope. 5. And a female has to be able to lift a 300lb animal with relative ease. How does this this winch rank. Thanks for all your help.

The Dutton Lainson Winch part # DL14934 would be perfect for you as it has a brake that takes effect whenever the handle is released. It has a TUFFPLATE finish that is three times more corrosion resistant than standard zinc finishes. It also has a lever that will allow it to free-wheel if needed.
Since this winch is rated for up to 1,200 lbs it would easily lift 300 lbs.
For a strap you would need the part # DL24249.
