Question:
Im looking at the Curt hitch and Draw Tite, to carry a bike trailer 2 bikes, about 20 pounds each. Which do you think is better? The Curt concerns me because the instructions say to remove the heat shield isnt it needed? What do you think of the two hitches, in terms of their ability to tow a bike rack?

I recommend using the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, item # 11352, over the Draw-Tite Class I Sportframe Trailer Hitch, item # 24796, on the 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid, because the Curt hitch uses existing holes in the vehicles frame rail to install the hitch and does not require drilling into the bottom of the vehicles trunk pan. With the Curt hitch, drilling is required but you do not have to drill into the inside of the vehicle trunk which would leave the potential for water to enter into the trunk area.
Removing the heat shield for installation of the Curt hitch is a valid concern. I spoke with my contact at Curt and he stated that the hitch mounting bracket is essentially replacing the heat shield and that the heat shield is no longer needed for protection of the trunk area from the exhaust system. You should save the heat shield, just in case the hitch is ever removed.
If you decide that you would like to retain the heat shield and use the Draw-Tite Hitch # 24796, I would recommend using some sealant like the Loctite RTV 5699 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker - Grey - 2.7-Fl Oz Tube, item # LT37464, between the hitch plates and the truck pan when installing this hitch. The sealant will help ensure that no water will enter the trunk area.
Our Swagman XC2 Wheel Mount Bike Rack, item # S64650, would be a excellent choice for your needs. A friend of mine installed one on his Ford Focus and he thinks it is great, and says the bikes are easy to load an are very secure once installed on the carrier.
I have provided links below to the parts recommended and to videos and instructions that may help you with your decision.
