Question:

Installed the hidden hitch with no problem except that now the tailpipe rattles against the hitch. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Exhaust rattle is a common problem that people run into when installing a hitch. Even installation shops will have this problem because vehicle manufacturers allow for variances in their exhaust locations. In most cases it is pretty easy to fix. I recommend locating the exhaust hanger, the part where the exhaust is held to the car, and try to bend the hanger so that it pulls the exhaust away from the hitch with a pry bar. You will want about a 1/2 inch gap between the hitch and exhaust. It takes a little elbow grease to bend the hanger, but this solves the problem 95 percent of the time. Most local auto shops will do this for you for a nominal fee.

Another option is to use a different rubber isolator between the exhaust and exhaust hanger that pulls the exhaust away from the hitch. Rubber isolators can be purchased at local hardware stores.

If it is a really tough situation, I recommend taking the vehicle to muffler shop because they can bend the exhaust pipe slightly to move it away from the hitch. I recommend having a shop perform this step because reshaping exhaust pipes involves heat and it is best to have a qualified professional to do the job. They will also do what they need to do to keep a clean look on the car for the exhaust.

I have attached one of our help articles that also explains how to correct exhaust rattle for you to check out.
