Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2009 Chevy HHR Behind a Motor Home with Blue Ox Aladdin Tow Bar
Question:
I purchased an RV that came with a Blue Ox Aladdin tow bar. I want to tow a 2009 Chevy HHR. I need BX1692 base plate. Is the tow bar I have compatible with the base plates for the Chevy?

Yes, your Blue Ox Aladdin tow bar will work with Blue Ox base plates # BX1692 for your 2009 Chevy HHR. If you do not already have safety cables you can add some using # RM-643.
In addition to the tow bar, cables, and base plates, you will also need a lighting solution and supplemental braking if you don't have those things already.
For lighting you can use a simple magnetic kit such as # RM-2120 or for a more permanent solution I recommend diode kit # RM-154 which plugs into a 4-Way flat on the RV. If the RV has a 7-Way blade style connector you can use an adapter such as # PK12716.
It also looks like you will have to pull a fuse to flat tow your HHR. Consult the vehicle owner's manual to confirm. To make this process as easy as flipping a switch I recommend fuse bypass # RM76511. I have linked videos showing how it and the base plates install.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
