Question:
I am trying to replace a vent in my camper. How do I go about taking my measurement, do I measure the vent inside or outside the camper and do I have to measure the flange. If you have any diagrams showing how this is done that would be great.

Trailer roof vents that are square in shape are usually 14 x 14-inches and are intended to fit a slightly larger 14-1/4 x 14-1/4-inch rough roof opening. I linked our main page for all roof vents; these include a majority in the 14 x 14 size but others are offered as well.
The best way to proceed is to remove the old vent so you can measure the dimensions of the trailer's opening. But you can also measure both the interior and exterior dimensions and get pretty close. We have only one vent that measures 10 x 12, part # 9139, and you should have no trouble determining if yours is 14 x 14 or 10 x 12. Square vents often have a cosmetic trim ring, or garnish, on the interior that hides the gap between the vent and the trailer structure. An example is part # VA0445-35. You will want to pull this down from the trailer's ceiling to allow a more accurate measurement of the actual roof opening. The garnish rings are usually just a friction fit.
On the linked page are filters you can click on to narrow the displayed results. For example, you can choose a vent with no fan, a 12V powered fan or an A/C powered fan as well as select your preferred color.
For a basic white plastic 14 x 14 manual vent you can use part # V2092SP-28 from Ventline. Or for a metal vent part # V2110SP-24.
Feel free to let me know your roof opening dimensions and the type of fan you want and I will be glad to help you select one.
