Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI Behind a Motor Home

Question:

Your site recommends base plate 521239-5 for my 2015 Golf TDI. Will the RM-520 work with this base plate? Thank you for your help.

Yes! The Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar # RM-520 is compatible with base plates # RM-521239-5 for your 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI. I have included a link to a video review of the tow bar for you.

In addition to the base plates and the tow bar you will also need safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For cables I recommend # RM-643 because the coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting I recommend a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. I do not recommend using a kit that requires splicing into the vehicle wiring because of the complicated and sensitive nature of the wiring system in the Golf.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
