Question:

I am purchasing a 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and would like to know if the gas RAV4 hitch will work on the hybrid model as well. Thank you.

We can offer you either a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch # C12108 or a 2-inch Class III hitch # C13149 for your 2016 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. These models, engineered primarily for the gas models, do also fit the hybrids. They do not fit the full electric versions. I confirmed this with my technical contact at Curt.

I recommend you go for the larger Class III hitch unless you have a specific need for a smaller 1-1/4-inch. A 2-inch Class III hitch will offer broader compatibility with a wide range of hitch-mount accessory items like bike racks and cargo carriers. If you plan to tow it will also deliver higher tongue weight and trailer weight ratings.

I linked both an install video and a helpful article to help your installation. Hitch installation requires basic hand tools (they are listed in the instructions for each hitch) as well as a torque wrench like # ALL944001. It is necessary to torque the included fasteners to the manufacturer's specs in order for the hitch to meet it's rated weight capacity.

You'll want to be sure to select hitch accessories, such as bike racks and cargo carriers, that match the Class rating of your hitch. I linked for your the bike and carriers pages showing products that fit BOTH sizes of hitch.
