Which Side Should Friction Sway Control Bar Be Installed On

I have a 23 ft rv trailer and in my very short history of towing it I have not experienced a sway problem. However, I am going on a long trip and decided to be save. If I install one bar what side is the best, left or right?

Typically, you want to mount the sway control bar, like the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 that you referenced, on the passenger side of the trailer. This is so that if any maintenance needs to be performed on the side of the road, it can be done safely, with you on the other side of the trailer from the traffic.

The Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 does come with a weld-on plate to install the sway control ball. However, if you do not want to weld the bracket to a ball mount, you can use a bracket like the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2 Inch Ball Mounts # RP26003. This bracket will mount to a Class III or Class IV ball mount to provide an attachment point for a friction-style sway-control system, like the # 17200.

If you need a bracket for a Class II ball mount, you can use part # RP26005.
