The Curt Friction Sway Control, # 17200 and the Reese Friction Sway Control, # 83660 are very similar. Friction sway control systems are a simple design and don't vary much in how they work. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit make contact with one another and create resistance to help reduce any further side-to-side movement. Both will reduce trailer sway caused by winds, passing trucks, winding roads or sudden maneuvers. Both will need to be disconnected when you are driving in reverse and tension removed when driving in slippery road conditions in order to prevent damage to the system.
The biggest difference in the systems is that the Curt friction sway control offers a 1 year limited warranty and the Reese offers a 10 year limited warranty. This is why I recommend the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, # 83660 and our customers select this kit more often.
