Axle Placement Recommendations for Trailer Being Built
Published 08/27/2015 >
Question:
Hello, does this formula work on certain trailers or all, such as Boat trailers? With either single or double axle trailers, electric or hydraulic brakes. I work on boat trailers and there are plenty of factors like the size and weight of boat, motor weight, and any other factors such as if there is going to be a crane or cab. etc. Im guessing the formula works the same as long as you know total weight of whats going to be on the trailer. Thanks.

The axle placement guide picture that I attached will work for nearly all trailers because when followed properly you end up with the correct amount of tongue weight for the trailer so that it does not sway.
Instead of using the axle center on a tandem axle trailer you would use the center hanger for the suspension as the point D for the chart.
