Towing a Vehicle on a Tow Dolly Behind a Motor Home and Carrying Bikes at the Same Time

Updated 08/03/2015 | Published 08/01/2015

Question:

I purchased a Acme Eze tow dolly for use with an RV 2016 Tiffin Allegro 32SA. However, Id like to somehow also add a bike rack to bring along 2 full size bikes. Weight of tow vehicle and tow dolly is approx. 3800 lbs. What is the best option? Hitch extension? Brands? Is there a 5,000 lb solution to provide a safety cushion after adding bikes, covers, etc. I will also be ping the hitch about 9 inches to level out the tow dolly connection. Thanks in advance for your help.

Curt offers dual hitch receiver # D-192 but it does not have a drop. It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross towing weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. But using it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent.

I would normally recommend going with # D210 but it only has a 2-1/4 inch drop.

Another option is to use a ball mount with 8 inch drop # AMSC8 with a bike carrier such as # Y36FR. But this may or may not work depending on how far it is from the face of the receiver to the center of the hitch pin hole on the RV hitch.

Only certain bike carriers can be used at the back of an RV. I have included a link to the ones that you could use.
