Is Trailer Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity Significantly Reduced when Using An Adjustable Ball Mount
Updated 05/24/2010 | Published 05/21/2010 >
Question:
I received my D900 and didnt realize how far it would stick out. Is there going to be any issues with leverage for such a long distance between the receiver and the ball? Im worried if I get a good size load on there that I may have issues. I have a 2010 1500 Silverado 4x4 and dont intend on going over 7K, but close to it. The ball is a good foot to foot and a half from the receiver and it seems to be way out there compared to what Im used to seeing.

When using the Curt Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount, # D900, you should not have any problems as long as you stay within the capacities of the ball mount, trailer hitch, and your 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500. The D900 is constructed of solid steel which compensates for its length.
Tongue weight could be an issue here. There are measures you can take to decrease the tongue weight such as moving more of the load towards the back of the trailer until the tongue weight is 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight.
