Can we use our older Hullivators on new Subaru Outback 2015.

According to my Thule representative, their Hullavator sadly isn't compatible with the factory crossbars on your Outback, because they don't extend out past the side of the vehicle. The crossbars need to stick out several inches or the carrier will contact the side of the vehicle when its lowered.

My next thought was that maybe aftermarket crossbars could be added, but I found that the unique side roof rails of your vehicle won't allow longer crossbars to be added.

Your best bet would be to go with a carrier like the Thule Top Deck part # TH881. This carrier would allow you to load your kayak from the rear of the vehicle. Thule confirms that this system is compatible with your factory roof rack.

A mat like part # TH854 would provide a slick surface that would make sliding the kayak into place much easier, it would protect the vehicle from scratches as well. The carrier includes the straps to secure the kayak to the crossbars as well as the bow and stern tie downs. I'd also recommend the Malone Hood Loops, part #MPG308 to provide quick and easy attachment points for the bow and stern tie downs. You can shut the loops in the front hood and rear hatch to provide a soft, scratch free attachment point for the tie downs.
