Question:
My boat trailer has the following original equipment tires: ST225/75R15 load range D tires 65 max PSI. The tires that I want to buy have a load range of E with 80 max PSI. Is there any problem with replacing load range D tires with load range E tires? I assume it is okay to use a higher load rated tire, but just wanted to check. BTW, my boat and trailer have a combined weight of 4200 pounds. Thanks

Before switching to a higher load rated tire, like a load range E, you will want to check the weight capacity on your trailer wheels. If you have a steel wheel, the capacity should be stamped on the backside lip of the wheel. If you have an alloy wheel, this rating should be stamped on the back side of the wheel spokes. A ST225/75R15 load range E tire like # AM10303 will have a capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. If the wheel has a similar weight capacity you will be good to go.
Another option would be just to upgrade to a wheel and tire package like the Kenda Tires and Wheel, part # AM32680.
I have linked an FAQ on trailer tires.
