Question:

I have a tow vehicle that has a 12 VDC system but my towing vehicle has 24VDC system. The lights in the tow vehicle are wide voltage range 9VDC to 30VDC so the higher voltage of the towing vehicle system will not hurt the tow vehicle lights but I want to make sure it will not hurt the diode either.

Expert Reply:

Roadmaster diode # RM-790 is rated for a maximum of 24 volts and 85 amps. So you can use it on a 12 or 24 volt system as long as the amperage draw does not exceed 85 amps. At 30 volts that would exceed the rated capacity of the diode and eventually you would have to replace the diode if the voltage was sustained over 24 volts long enough and/or frequent enough.
