Question:

looking to purchase a Thule Vertex # TH9029XT. my question is. i just got my wife a 09 trek 7200 womens hybrid bike. the one with the u shape for girls type. is that bike able to hitch up to this rack? or do i need to buy an accesory?

With the Thule Apex bike rack, item # TH9025XT, a frame adapter bar like part # 64005 would span the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance.
