When Wiring Up Brake Controller Does Power Wire Run to Vehicle Battery

Question:

Your instructions show connecting the 7-pin and the brake controller direct to the battery. Do either of them need direct battery connection, or can they be connected to a switched source?

Expert Reply:

When installing a brake controller you would want to connect the power wire of the controller (usually black) to the positive terminal of the vehicle battery unless the vehicle has a brake controller install wiring bundle that already has this circuit ran. Not many switched circuits could handle the load of brake assemblies so you would have to run it to the battery directly.
