Question:

Just installed front mount receiver on my GMC 2500 hd and would like recommendation on cargo carrier. Will be carrying a honda 2000 gen. and gas can, etc.

This 2-inch hitch offers a maximum tongue weight (TW) capacity of 500-lbs so a cargo carrier rated for 450-500-lbs will be a good choice. Please click on the link provided to see all fixed cargo carriers in this capacity range.

I suggest a lightweight aluminum carrier like the Curt # C18113 because it weighs only 25-lbs and this will leave more of your hitch capacity for your cargo. Plus this will help reduce compression of your front suspension.

You will want to ensure your total cargo load does not exceed the available 475-lb cargo weight, which is hitch capacity minus carrier weight (500 - 25 = 475-lbs). Also it is a good idea to make sure your items do not block air flow to the engine or block your headlights. I also suggest you check local laws regarding transporting gasoline on the front of a vehicle.
