Extra Ride Support for 2006 GMC Canyon 4WD Towing Trailer
Updated 07/17/2020 | Published 04/08/2015 >
Question:
We have a 2006 GMC Canyon 4 wheel drive that is being used to pull a trailer. We are looking for some extra ride support. I saw the SSR-210-40 but it says it is for Z71 model, ours is not. What do you recommend other than air ride?

Helper springs kits are designed to suspend weight carried in the cargo area of the vehicle, such as your truck bed. If you're towing a trailer and want to counteract rear end squat caused by the tongue weight of a trailer being applied to the hitch, a weight distribution system would be a more effective choice.
To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the SUV behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures comprise the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.
See the linked article that explains how to determine your trailer tongue weight, and also to an article that explains all about weight distribution.
I have included a link to our weight distribution systems which will allow you to narrow your search based on your trailer's tongue weight and gross trailer weight.
