Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2015 Toyota Tundra Towing Boat Trailer
Updated 04/08/2015 | Published 04/07/2015 >
Question:
I need a weight distribution system with sway control for a 2015 Toyota Tundra towing a 9500 lbs boat trailer with a tongue weight of about 750lbs. Im looking at the Blue Ox, but Im not sure. I need a system that will be relatively easy to connect and disconnect the trailer from the truck since I will be doing this every time I use the boat. So my questions are: 1 How easy is it to connect and disconnect these systems? 2 Can I just leave the system connected to the trailer and disconnect the truck? 3 Do these system really weight 100lbs? Thanks for your response!

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
If your loaded tongue weight is 750 lbs, the # BXW1003 would be rated a bit too high. Also, if you are looking for an easy to install and use setup I wouldn't go the Blue Ox route. For an easier to use system I would go with a Reese system like the # RP66542 that would do great with your 750 lb tongue weight. The snap up brackets of this system are much easier to use than the Blue Ox ones.
The snap up brackets can be left on the trailer, but the rest of the system will have to be disconnected as it inserts in the trailer hitch. To disconnect the system the spring bars will have to be lowered so that the tension in the system is relieved which will allow the coupler to separate from the ball mount.
This system weighs 80 lbs.
