Can Air Suspension Be Installed With Aftermarket Exhaust On 2008 GMC Sierra 2500

Updated 03/30/2015 | Published 03/27/2015

Question:

Im curious if the air suspension you have available is heat resistant? My truck has aftermarket exhaust and was told without heat resistance air bags would not work. Please let me know. 2008 GMC Sierra 2500

I called my contact at Air Lift about the LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs, part # AL88275 for your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500.

They told me that as long as you have 6 inches clearance between the air bags and your exhaust you should be okay. If you have less than 6 inches then a heat shield is recommended to protect the air bags. You will want to make sure you run the air line away from the exhaust as well.

To be able to control the air pressure in the springs from the comfort of your truck cab I recommend the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System, part # AL25856. This is a dual path system that lets you adjust the pressure side-to-side in the event you have an uneven load in your truck bed.

I also called Firestone and for the Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, part # F2250, the same distance of 6 inches is required.

The air compressor system I recommend for the Firestone system is Firestone Level Command II, part # F2219.

I have attached links to some videos about these products you can check out.
