Recommended Wiring and Installation Instructions for Winch

Updated 03/17/2015 | Published 03/14/2015

Question:

I have the single pole brass connector and receiver but now need to wire it in. The length is from the battery back to under the rear bumper next to the other trailer ports. The other will be a wire to go to the winch but the plastic connector is not big enough for large wire. Suggestions? I have enclosed the new brass end with the end that must go into the winch. The other end that went into the power port will house the new brass end. The port itself melted 3 times due to the draw of the winch.

Single-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector, # PK11852, which you reference, uses #OO gauge wire, which we do not carry at this time.

The best solution would be to use a winch wiring kit like the Winch Trailer Wiring Kit, item # BDW20043. This kit includes everything needed to install a connector at the rear of the vehicle and at the front of the trailer, for powering a winch. If you already have heavy enough gauge wire you can order the Electrical Quick Connectors, item # DL24086.

For winches up to 16.5K, use # BDW20207. Be aware that the winch will be limited by the capacity of the lowest rated item on your vehicle whether it is the winch, mounting plate, trailer hitch or vehicle frame. I will add a link to that product page below.
