Question:
I have a 2004 Honda Pilot with factory installed hitch, 4 pin connector, transmission & steering coolers. Do I need this item in addition to the Prodigy and Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit? Thank you

Ordinarily, you would need three components to complete a brake controller and trailer wiring set up on a 2004 Honda Pilot. The brake controller, the 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, and wiring harness 43105 or 118336. If you already have a 4-Way connection at the rear of the vehicle, you should only need the brake controller and the ETBC7 kit.
You have to make sure your 4-Way connection you have currently on the vehicle is functional (it is wired and ready to use). The ETBC7 kit plugs into the 4-Way and then connects to the battery and brake controller. If your 4-Way is just a plug with no wires run, then you will need to add the necessary wiring; in this case either 118336 or 43105. I have included installation instructions and an install video for harness 118336 below.
If you are unsure if your plug is functional, you can plug it into your trailer and see if the lights work properly on the trailer. If you do not have a trailer to test the connector on, you can use a circuit tester like tester # PTW2992, to see if there is power running to the connector.
If you test it and everything is functional with the current 4-Way, then you move on to wiring the ETBC7 and brake controller. I have included two videos that show installation of an ETBC7 kit below. I have also included a helpful FAQ on wiring a brake controller from scratch that takes you through, step by step, the process of wiring the brake controller.
