Im assuming no other yr will work except for 02 regardless of build date?

The build dates do not apply to the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, only to the 2003 models. For your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 I have linked all of the trailer hitches that fit. The Curt trailer hitch that you referenced, # 13326 , will fit your Ram.
This hitch will fit 2002 Dodge Ram 1500s and 2003 Dodge Ram 1500s that were built before 11-1-02.
