Purpose of the Red S Clips in Glacier Snow Chains
Published 12/10/2014 >
Question:
I bought two sets of Glacier cable chains for a 99 Toyota Four Funner with Tracker ATV Tires.....There could not be a better fit. However the instructions indicate using a red S clip to tie the lose end of the cable which extends beyond the attaching clip. There are no red S clips. I did buy two sets of the black rubber tighter with silver collared metal S clips, but that does not answer the question as what to do with the inch or so of extra cable that extends beyond the put through clip. The chins I received do not have the tightening end as shown in your video, which I have had on several cable chains in years back, but I guess and hope they will do the job. Thanks,

To see a picture of what the red S clips that the installation instructions are referring to check out the picture I attached. If all you have is about 1 inch of extra cable you would be fine not using one of the clips to secure it away.
The purpose of the clip would be to secure extra cable back to the chain so that the excess wouldn't hit anything. But with only an inch of excess cable you would be just fine.
