  • Does Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Reset Itself After a Surge
Camco does make a version of the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone # CAM55312 that does automatically reset itself with the Voltage Protector part # CAM55301 but the part # CAM55312 will only take one surge before it needs to be replaced. It's like a fuse whereas the Protector is like a breaker in that it resets. I attached a review video for the Protector for you to check out as well.

  • Hooking Up Surge Protector for 30 Amp Camper to Plug Into 50 Amp Power Source
If your camper is wired for 30 amps I highly recommend using a 30 amp surge protector. The potential issue with using a higher-rated 50 amp surge protector is that it wouldn't be triggered soon enough to protect any appliances you have that are rated for 30 amps. To hook up your 30 amp camper to a 50 amp power source you will want to first connect a 30 amp voltage protector (like the Camco # CAM55301 for a reseting protector or # CAM55312 for a one-time-use protector) to the camper. Then...

  • Is A Straight Style 30A to a 50A Adapter Better than a Dog Bone Style Adapter?
Hi Brian, great question! The adapter part # A10-5030AVP can plug directly into the 50A receptacle, then plug your 30A surge protector into the adapter, followed by your RV’s power cord. That would work just fine, however I still recommend a dog bone style cord, let me tell you why. The dog bone style is easier to plug in and unplug, especially one with handles. It also put's less stress on our outlet. When you use a straight adapter (like the A10-5030AVP), it sticks straight out from...

  • Joules of Surge Protection for the Camco Voltage Defender
I spoke to my contact at Camco and he informed me that the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Analyzer # CAM55310 that you referenced offers 1,050 joules of surge protection but it's primary function is to determine if a power outlet/pedestal is wired correctly. For more voltage protection you may be more interested in the # CAM55301 that offers 2,450 joules of protection or the part # CAM55306 that provides 3,850 joules of protection. Review videos for all three products are attached.

  • Recommended Adapter and Surge Protector for 50 Amp System to 30 Amp Shore Power
With your 50 amp camper system, I recommend using the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male # CAM55025 to allow you to plug into 30 amp power supplies. Then you will use a surge protector like # CAM55306 for multiple surge protection or # CAM55313 for single time surge protection. Many people use the Camco Power Grip Cable with Lock # CAM44290 to protect their investment. Unless you convert your entire system to 30 amp, I don't recommend using a...

  • Differences Between Camco Circuit Analyzers and Power Defenders
You are correct. The 30 Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector # CAM55301 is like a circuit breaker and automatically resets if there's a surge whereas the 50 amp Circuit Analyzer part # CAM55313 is like a fuse and it only can handle one surge. For a 50 amp breaker style you'd need the part # CAM55306.

  • Recommended RV Surge Protector Voltage Regulator for 30 Amp Power System
For any trailer or motorhome system, I recommend using a surge protector to protect your trailer electronics and components from issue. For your 30 amp system I recommend at least the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone - 125V - 30 Amp # CAM55312 which will protect from a single surge has indicator lights of faults. This will require replacing after a surge and will not allow you to safely reconnect your system after a fault so you would be taking a risk if you reconnect....

  • How to Connect Surge Protector When Using 30 Amp to 50 Amp RV Adapter Power Cord
You have it exactly right. Starting at the RV you will plug in your 30A power cord like # A10-3025ED90 which will connect to the 30A surge protector, such as the Camco # CAM55312 or the multilevel # CAM55301. Then from the surge protector you will use your adapter like # A10-5030FHVP to plug into the 50 amp shore power outlet.

  • Blue Light On Camco RV Power Defender CAM55312 No Longer Illuminating
I spoke with my contact at Camco regarding your RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer # CAM55312. He said that if the blue surge protector light is no longer illuminating on your unit then it has experienced a surge episode (and protected your RV!). This may have happened with your 30 amp home outlet or it could have happened the previous time you used the analyzer at a campsite. Since this particular model provides one-time-event protection, it is no longer able to provide surge protection...

  • How To Use a Surge Protector When Hooking Up a 30 Amp Camper To a 50 Amp Service
It sounds like you are wanting to use a surge protector when hooking up your 30 amp trailer to a 50 amp service. If that is the case then this can be done but you would want to use a 30 amp surge protector. I recommend using the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector part # CAM55301 with the Power Grip RV Power Cord Adapter part # CAM55175. The camper pulls power from the shore outlet, not the other way around. The camper would never pull more than 30 amps unless there was an issue...

  • Which 30 Amp Camco Surge Protector will Reset Itself After Triggering
The Camco RV Power Defender, part # CAM55312 can only withstand a single surge. It cannot reset its surge protector once its used, and will need to be replaced. There is a version that will reset itself though and for that part number you'd want # CAM55301.

You can still use your 50 amp extension cord to the outlet and just use an adapter like the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Adapter Plug - 30 Amp Female to 50 Amp Male - Round # A10-5030AVP. You will still need a 30 amp cable like the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord with Handle - 30 Amp Male to Twist Lock Female Connector - 25' Long # A10-3025ED90 or if you have the retractable hardwired cable then you just use the adapter to utilize your extension cord. • Comparison of Camco Circuit Analyzers and Voltage Protectors
Camco Power Defender voltage protectors, parts # CAM55301 and # CAM55306, have a bit more protection than the circuit analyzers, parts # CAM55310, # CAM55312, and # CAM55313. Both the analyzers and protectors have diagnostic lights for faults but beyond that the analyzers are just surge protectors. The voltage protectors go a little further by detecting the voltage and shutting off if the voltage level falls below 102V or goes over 132V. The voltage protectors also reset themselves...

  • Does 50 Amp RV Need to Have 30 Amp Surge Protection Using 30 Amp Power
If you power your 50 amp service RV with 30 amp power you'll be fine as long as you are aware that your amperage is not lower than normal which means you won't be able to run as many electricity power accessories at any given time. The surge protector is for protecting the wiring of your RV though so there's no reason you'd have to go down to a 30 amp protector. Your RV can handle up to 50 amps so there's nothing that's going to harm it between 30 and 50.

  • Can 30 Amp Surge Protector be Used on 50 Amp RV
A 30 amp surge protector can be used on a 50 amp RV but if you exceed 30 amps the surge protector is going to activate and prevent more than 30 amps from making it to the rest of the electrical system. So it would "work" but not be ideal Best solution would be a 50 amp surge protector like the part # CAM55301.

  • Comparing Camco RV Circuit Analyzer and Voltage Protector for 30 Amp Service
In simplest terms, the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer part # CAM55310 acts as a fuse and the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector part # CAM55301 acts as an auto-resetting circuit breaker. Therefore, if the fuse blows it will need to be replaced but if the circuit breaker trips it will go back to functioning as normal once the fault is corrected.

  • Can 50 Amp Surge Protector Be Used with 30 Amp Power Supply
You can use a 50 amp surge protector on your 30 amp service but I would offer a bit of caution. If any of your appliances or items are rated at 30 amps and something happened that caused them to draw more power, the 50 amp surge protector would not trigger and you could suffer damage to those items. If you decide to use the 50 amp surge protector I recommend making sure everything is in good working order, but as I stated, if there were a problem it may cause damage because the circuit...

If the power draw was less than 30 amps with the accessories then the Camco Power Defender part # CAM55301 can be used with a 30 amp to 50 amp adapter. Having access to a 50 amp power source though does not mean that much amperage will be pulled through the adapter.

  • When Going from 30 Amp Power Source to 50 Amp RV What Power Amperage Circuit Protection is Needed
You want circuit protection to protect your RV's wiring which is rated for 50 amp....so you'd want to go with 50 amp circuit protection. For that we have the part # CAM55306 which automatically resets or the part # CAM55313 which is more like a fuse and is internally damaged and needs to be replaced in the event of a surge. To adapt this to a 30 amp power source you'd want the part # A10-3050FHVP and you'd be set.
