Randy: Hey, guys. It's Randy here at etrailer.com. We often get questions from our customers about how they can get their seven pole on their vehicle to work with different types of trailers. What we're looking at here is a four and five-pole adapter, so this is going to allow you to use the standard four-pole plug that you're going to find on most utility trailers. This is going to have your ground, running lights, left turn and brake signal, and right turn and brake signal. You can also see we've got our fifth pole here. It looks a little bit different than a standard four-pole adapter.

This allows us to send a reverse light signal through this plug back to our trailer. In most applications, that's going to be used on marine trailers for the lockout circuit on surge brakes, but it can also to used to power backup lights on your trailer. So you've kind of got options there.Additionally to those things, helping it work for multiple trailers, it also has resistors that have been built in. On some vehicles, especially European vehicles that we see, when they have a factory seven-pole on them, if your trailer has LED lights, that causes a fast blink inside your car, and it causes a light out or a lamp out light to come on. With those resistors being built in, it's going to cause your vehicle to think that your trailer has incandescent lights on it.

LED lights are becoming very, very popular. They last a lot longer, and a lot of customers are switching over to them. So having this handy in the event that maybe you usually haul an incandescent trailer, but then borrow a trailer that has LEDs, that's going to stop that fast flash or that lamp out signal coming through. As far as the installation process, it's going to be just like a normal seven pole. The tab here on top is going to go right behind the tab that's on our cover. So this slides in till it stops.

The top comes down. We always want to confirm that is in behind that tab on the cover. At that point, we're ready to pull again either our four or five-pole trailer. Just like that. Now, one thing I've noticed in messing with this, is that when we pull out our trailer connector, you see how that middle part wiggles just a little bit Now, this has a lot of good customer reviews. No customers have mentioned any issues with that or anything.

But you can see it moves in just a little bit, and it comes out just a little bit. Just wanted you to be aware of it, so you didn't think yours might be messed up or something when you get it.Now as far as if it would be something that I would own, I definitely like it. I think it is a good product, especially if you have one of those vehicles where that lighting system has that lamp out monitor. I think it's going to save you a lot of headache. It's going to work on any vehicle, even if it doesn't have that situation, but it's going to help in those events that it does. I like having all five poles there, so if you ever pull somebody's marine trailer or you already have a marine trailer, you're not going to have to worry about the lockout signal. Overall, it's good quality. It feels good. There's not a cover that comes with it to cover the poles, so when not in use. Some of the adapters are going to have covers that'll go over them, keep them protected. This one does not. So this isn't something that I would leave on the back of my vehicle. This would be something I would have in there when I needed it, I would take out when I didn't.One thing to help extend the life of it, dielectric grease is critically important. Some people use it, some people don't. The people that use it really see the benefit from it. Basically, by adding grease to our terminals on both sides, we prevent moisture from getting in there, which kind of absorbs dirt. Once we've got wet dirt sitting in there, corrosion is going to be an issue.Just like most adapters out there, to help resist corrosion further, all of our connectors are going to have a nickel coating on it. That's just going to help to alleviate any of that corrosion issue, at least much better than brass does. But again, dielectric grease is a really good option.

Works exactly as advertised for our VW Touareg and trailer that now runs LED tails (which I happily bought from etrailer.com). Ignore the wiring diagram on the packaging as it's wrong. etrailer.com has much better wiring diagrams and pin-outs that can be used.

Before this device, my MB GL450 towed with hesitation, not at all like I was expecting. Plus I had running lights but NO 1. blinkers on back of trailer 2. no brake lights on back of trailer and of course, that means I was a highway hazard of the worst kind. This device plugged in gave me better towing as my GL 450 recognized there was a trailer behind it, full blinkers, full brake lights. I am thrilled to be driving safely for myself, my family, and those around me!

From the start I have had issues with trailer lights on my Porsche Cayenne Turbo and whatever product I tried, it did not fix the problem. The plugs I ordered from www.Etrailer.com plugged right in and fixed the problem between the LED trailer lighting and my Porsche. I hear it is a common issue on German vehicles, so I highly recommend this product to anyone. I couldn't be happier with the product itself AND the customer service from the staff all the way from the order, to confirming delivery. Thanks again! Attached are a few pictures of the towing setup!

This solved the problem! I recently moved my license plate to a new location on the spare tire on the back door of my van. The new license plate spare tire mount included a white license plate running light as well as a new third brake light. Both were LEDs. I wanted to get things up and running quickly and figured rather than fishing around inside to find and tap into my wiring harnesses, because I have a trailer hitch I would go ahead and wire up a trailer wiring harness connector I had lying around. However, when I plugged it into my harness adapter at the hitch, nothing worked. Just faint flickering. Googled the problem with LEDs on trailers and came across this. Worked correctly out of the box!

This product has solved all the LED trailer lighting issues. Without this unit trailer tail lights would blink rapidly due to bulb out sensors on the Euro vehicles..MB/BMW/Audi etc. The resistance of the onboard sensors is designed for resistance of incandescent bulbs , not LED. Unfortunately the dealers were completely useless & incompetent. They're not interested in learning how to solve or product support. This should be common knowledge among all automotive vendors. Some SUV actually tow trailers as they come equipped with hitches and trailer wiring- imagine that?

Driving a '13 Escape, factory trailer tow package, pulling an Aluma tilt trailer w/ LED lights. When initiating signal light, it flashes rapidly w/ dash warning of trailer bulb failure + audible alarm. Also, stop/tail lights flash on/off as if hazard lights were on. I've researched several 'fixes' for a vehicle that is not programmed for pulling a trailer w/ LED lights: 1. connect in load resistors; 2. use wiring harness compatible w/ LED lights; 3. Ford has their own fix TSB-13-1-5 (which rewires the vehicle trailer tow package + adds different module. Not a good fix in my opinion). From etrailer.com, I've ordered p/n: 30717 (Adaptor 4 pole to 7 pole vehicle end trailer connector), AND p/n: TR20141 (7 way to 5 and 4 way trailer adaptor for VW, Audi, Porsche towing trailers w/ LED lights). P/N: 30717 does require you to connect the white wire (ground) to a ground point (frame or metal bracket) on the tow vehicle. I did this with a flat 2 way connector I purchased at the local hardware store (just join both wires, they're going to ground anyway). In conclusion, yes, there are two connectors back there to support, I've just used small/short bungee cords to hold the connectors to the receiver hitch & the trailer tongue. I've also used dielectric grease between the different connectors. All in all, the trailer lights now work as they should, no vehicle dash warnings, no problems! Thanks etrailer for your support. Finally happy towing.

Discovered my Jeep had the wrong chip for new LED trailer lights, so I had a purchase the right chip to get this adapter working. After that, worked and still works like a charm. Still using it today. Thumbs up!

This product has worked perfectly. I was having problems with my trailer brakes not releasing when I put my MB GL450 in reverse. After searching the e-trailer site I quickly learned that because my trailer had LED lights there was not enough resistance in the circuit to tell the care to engage the trailering function. Once I purchased this plug everything has worked flawlessly.

This resolved my issues with my 2007 BMW X5 3.0si. My trailer LED lights had just been blinking whenever the 4-pin flat plug was plugged into the round BMW adapter. The brake and turn signal lights still worked, but when nothing else was going on, or even when the lights were turned off, all the trailer lights just flashed constantly. When I first plugged this in, the lights did the same thing. I unplugged it, reseated the 4-pin flat plug, then reseated the round adapter, and the trailer lights were still flashing. I turned on the car lights and tried the brake and signal lights. Trailer lights still flashing. I turned the headlights off, and the trailer lights went off! Brake lights and turn signals worked, and no flashing lights! Turned the headlights back on, clearance lights and tail lamps worked and no flashing! Brake lights and turn signals worked and no flashing! Cycled through everything a couple of times, and all was good - guess it just needed to get used to everything, but now it is working great! This $15 piece saved a $4,000 investment, so I'm quite happy! It also showed up a day faster than expected, which made it even better. Pat was a very big help getting it selected and getting it here faster!

After taking my 2019 MM GLC 300 to a MB dealer to see why the LED lights on my 2018 boat trailer didn’t work, the dealer told me the factory installed wires worked fine. They told me to take the trailer to the dealer. Same answer. I bought resistors for the turn signals. No change. Went on your website, saw the info on your plug foe led trailer lights. Ordered the product on 7/4, received it on 7/8, plugged it in and car immediately recognized the trailer, all the warnings about towing a trailer appeared on the dash, turned the lights on, and all the trailer lights worked as they should, markers, turns, brake and trailer brakes. Your service is super, but I already knew that from previous purchases. The product solves my problem completely. Thanks for your engineering this plug and I wish MB had it available, but I’d rather go to you for all my trailer needs. Thanks again

Rewired my 10 year old utility trailer and used the new LED Light Kit my son bought for me. Normally I'm pretty good at electrical work, and after the installation the lights were doing all kinds of strange things. After checking the ground several times, I jumped on the internet and found eTrailer's report of European vehicles having a hard time recognizing LED trailer lights and sending a "light out" message on my Mercedes GL320. After looking at eTrailers customer review's, and similar vehicles the problem seemed to be solved by using the 7-Way Flat Pin to 5-Way Flat LED Lamp-Out Bypass Adapter. I ordered at the Adapter #20141, received it in good order. Plugged it into my vehicle/Trailer....and Much Joy hit me hard when the lights on my utility trailer lit up like new. Works perfectly. Good job by eTrailer for the customer reviews and advice on trailer lighting issues.

This plug was purchased for my 2010 Porsche Cayenne S and works perfectly with my boat trailer that has LED lights. I originally had a more generic plug and the LED lights on the trailer seemed way too bright. I would also get a momentary warning about the lights system when starting the car. Now that I have this specific plug, I no longer get the warnings and the trailer lights operate at the proper intensity. Exactly what I needed for my set-up!

Your product has worked perfectly for me for the past year. I do not tow very often, but when I do, the connector provides exactly what I need to properly connect the LED lighting system and brake system on the trailer to my 2010 Porsche Cayenne S.

If you have a European SUV. Audi Porsche BMW Meecedes etc this will work like a charm. I bought a trailer with LED lights and when I connected it to my vehicle the trailer lights would not work. The would flash or not come on at all. It is because of the low current that LED lights produce. The vehicle sensors thing there is a light out and tries to locate it. This adapter bypasses the vehicle current sensor and allows the lights to function correctly. I tried shopping local but nobody had it. This was shipped fast and exactly what I needed. Thanks.

Product arrived promptly and is exactly as described. On my 2009 Mercedes ML550 this is REQUIRED if you want to rent any trailers with LED lights at U-Haul. Beware the dimwits at U-Haul as they have NO CLUE what they are doing. eTrailer.Com has this priced at HALF what U-Haul charges, and they don't even know Mercedes cars need them!

  • Troubleshooting 2017 Ford F-250 Error Message for Trailer Lighting Module
In order to help you troubleshoot this issue I need to ask you a few questions. On the trailer, do the turn signals operate properly, meaning do they flash at the expected rate? Were the LEDs installed recently as replacements or are they the original OEM lights? Has the trailer operated correctly until now or has it always had this issue? I ask these questions because the newer Fords have a fairly complicated trailer wiring setup and I have heard of this issue before. Sometimes...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer LED Lights Not Working When Hooked Up to a 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL450
The LED bulbs on your trailer draw very little power and the Lamp-Out sensor in your 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL450 sees this as a bulb that is about to go out. To solve this problem the # TR20141 adapter has resistors to simulate more power draw which usually works. The other solution is to install load resistors like # P230004A on the lighting circuits. Since the adpater didn't solve your problem you'll need to install the resistors.

  • One Side of Trailer Lights Not Working With TR20141
Since one side of the trailer lights is working fine, it leads me to believe the issue is something other than the 7-Way to 5-Way/4-Way Trailer Adapter for Vehicles with Lamp-Out Sensors Towing Trailers with LEDs # TR20141. If this were the issue (if the adapter were not working as intended), then it would reason that there would be faults on both sides with your vehicle. My best guess is that the issue is with the actual trailer wiring, or possibly the connector. Since you have a 2021...

  • 7-Way to 5-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter Recommendation for Porsche Cayenne
German vehicles like your Porsche don't like trailers with LED tail lights. It causes a tail light bulb sensor to pop up on the dash when connected to them. That is why the part # TR20141 was created. This adapter has diodes in it that allow the trailers with LEDs to be towed without any issues. This adapter can be used on trailers with incandescent bulbs as well too. The part # A75TB is the same adapter but without the diodes.

  • Will 7-Way to 5-and 4-Way Trailer Adapter TR20141 Fix Flashing Trailer Lights, 2010 Mercedes GL450
If the trailer has LED lights and you are having issues with them not working then you would need to use adapter # TR20141. To plug in a 4-Way, you would just not use the last opening on the adapter. That would be for a 5-Way flat (it works with both 4-Way and 5-Way flat connectors). In the event that the 4-Way on the trailer is not conducive to this design because of a rubber or plastic covering, you may have to trim it or replace the 4-Way end with a compatible one like # 18004.

  • Trailer Wiring Adapter Recommendation for a 2011 Mercedes ML350 for Towing LED Trailer
If you have a 7-way on your 2011 Mercedes ML350 and when you connect your trailer with LED lights you end up getting a bulb-out error code the 7-way adapter part # TR20141 will work for you. There are load resistors in this adapter that increase the amperage draw of the vehicle's trailer wiring so that the vehicle does not think it has a blown taillight bulb. If instead your trailer has a 7-way connector you would instead need the part # C57003. The # TR20141 will convert a 7-way...

  • Wiring Adapter for Land Rover to Allow Proper Operation of LED Trailer Lights
We do offer wiring adapters for import vehicles to help them properly operate the LED lights on a trailer. If both the vehicle and trailer have a 7-way RV style connector then you can use part # C57003 from Curt. If the trailer has a 4-pole flat connector then instead you'll use # TR20141 which provides that connection. Both of these require a 7-way socket on the vehicle, like the one shown in the linked photo.

  • 2011 Range Rover with Trailer Assist Does Not Recognize Trailer with LED Tail Lights
First an adapter with load resistors that goes from a 4-Way flat to a 4-Way flat is not available. You would need to use the 7-Way to 4-Way adapter, # TR20141 for that. This particular adapter was designed to offer enough resistance when towing a trailer with LED lights so you no longer get those errors. The other option is to install load resistors, like # P230004A-2 for a 2-pack, in line on the trailer wiring for each circuit.

  • Troubleshooting Factory Trailer Wiring that has No Power
My first thought would be blown fuses, so I would be sure to double check all fuses and relays related to the tow package. This information will be listed in your owners manual. Check to ensure you are getting power at the trailer connector on your vehicle. Using a circuit tester like # 40376, test the vehicle side connector since it's factory trailer wiring. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector...

  • Will Tow Ready Wiring Adapter # TR20141 Work With Trailers Using LED or Incandescent Lighting
The Tow Ready Trailer Wiring Adapter, part # TR20141, you have referenced will work with both incandescent or LED lights on a trailer. This adapter is designed to be used on vehicles with incandescent lights towing a trailer with LED lights. The Lamp Out Warning Module on your BMW X3 is a feature that lets you know of a bulb that is burned out on your vehicle. It also passes through the trailer wiring. When towing with a trailer that has LED lights, which require less power then incandescent...
