Video Transcript for 2004 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit: Complete Installation

On this 2004 Ford F-250 super duty, we're going to review and install the bulldog wiring kit, part number BDW20207. First of, all hand cover the parts that come with this part number. This is our main wire harness right here, which is constructive of two gauge material and its overall length, is going to be 24 foot long. We'll take a look at the ends. First of, for your typical assessor, which should be the winch that goes on here. This is going to be ride towards the back of a truck. Comes with a cap, to cover up when it's not being used.

Also there's a little lanyard, so don't lose it, you can attach it to somewhere on the vehicle. On the other end of our wires, these is ground one. It's got all seal that ends on it. Our negative wire, here, it's intended to be installed on the negative side of the battery. Here's our red one that goes to the positive side of the battery and the same style construction. For your accessory or plug into it, comes with it's own plug and some logs to get crypt on to two gauge wire as well. This also comes from some heavy zip ties, to help it secure it to the vehicle.

To start off our install, I'm going to take this end of our wire harness and I'll route down behind battery, down towards the frame. I'm going to go through this opening right through here. We should be close to the inaudible 00:01:20 liner when guided from there, once we get down to that point. Once we have it through our opening, we'll go ahead and pull all the slack through and make one ground connection to our battery. We'll go ahead and make a connection to the negative side of the battery. We'll go ahead and loosen up the nut here, and we'll go right ahead and remove it.

Right, what I'm taking a wire and add it to our negative side of our battery. Now of course this is going to be a bit of sloppy fit, so I'm going to use the number ten washer on my bolt, to help give it some grip on the cable when we reinstall the nut. Now, I like to leave my positives, terminal as one of the last things I connect up. Let's leave this alone for now, we'll go back underneath the truck and route our wire to the back. Now we'll run a wire back, we'll make sure we stay away from anything moving like suspension components or anything hot like the exhaust. We'll go ahead and run ours long the frame as best we can and out towards the bumper. Now we'll go ahead and show you how we routed our wires.

Basically, we tried to follow the top of the frame rail as this is possible. Around this body mount right here, where it will rest on the frame, go along through here. We used some zip ties that came with the kit, to help hold it in place. We've basically used the existing holes in the frame and went along the side of it. We got over by the axle a bit, we had to run over the top of the frame and then start running inside the frame and let the cross numbers hold the wire up for us. Now you know, so we have some extra wire. We place some simple loops in there, zip tie it together and by this time we we're out of large zip ties, so we went back to some small zip ties. Held everything up against the inside edge of the bumper. There we have a wire harness right here. Now our kit does not come with a bracket or anything to hold in place, so, you could leave it like this, where the cover will be fine or, you can advocate your own bracket for it. If you choose to mount up to a bracket, or something from this vehicle, it does have holes built in for that purpose as well. Now we'll install our cap, we're in between the two wires and back over itself this way. That way your cap always stays with it. If we're wiring around, we'll go ahead and move to the front of the truck and hook up a positive cable. We'll use this pre-existing stud right here. We'll go ahead and remove the nut, using a ten millimeter socket. With this time, instead of using the extra washer on here, we just used to use a smaller ring of familiar wires stacked on top and let that do the work for us. Then we'll clump it down when we re-install the nut. This goes to the back of the truck one more time and we'll go ahead and use the tester to verify if we have power going back. We use our tester on it, even labelled negative, so we'll put our ground clamp there and we'll check the other side. Now you have power going back to it and inaudible 00:05:03 ad on our own accessory. Now we've verified power's going through our cable. I think we're good to go. L-Fisher for part number BDW20207. The bulldog wiring kit, on this 2004 Ford F-250 super duty.

Great-5-no problems since going on truck battery’s power

Great product, worked perfectly. I installed a winch on my car hauler trailer with a tip up bed. The 24' wiring kit was the perfect length. I have a 4 door/ long bed truck and with the trailer bed tipped up the extra length was perfect to connect to the winch. The plug for the winch side was easily soldered onto my winch leads. Very happy with the product all around.

Best service! And prices also. Never going back to amazon if I can buy it from etrailer.

GREAT! I plug this in daily and it charges my trailer way faster than the 7-way power plug. I had it installed by a local shop. THANKS!

by:

This works real well for charging cables, truck hitch mounted winch and recharging batteries on camper and dump trailers.

by:

Hi quality product, better than I expected. Also reasonably priced. It will be a quality accessory added to the vehicle and be interchangeable to the next vehicle I purchase. Thanks etrailer for making my shopping easier. AND Talk about quick service and delivery all 5 Star for me. I purchased both front and rear hook ups for my winch or other things that will need power and they are both just what the doctor ordered.

by:

Great product. I installed on a 2016 crew cab extended bed colarado. There was more than enough length. The extras like the hanger cable for the connector and industrial strength zip ties are really a bonus. I priced the parts individually retail compared to this kit and this kit is more affordable plus all in one everything needed. Much appreciated!

by:

Easy to install !!!

  • What Gauge Wire is Needed for Trailer Winch
For a winch like the Superwinch S6000 Winch # CU854754 you will simply want to use the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit # BDW20207. Since winches can vary on how much they can pull this also affects how much power they need. For a winch that is rated up to 4K it is recommended to use 6 Gauge Wire like what comes in the Bulldog Kit # BDW20304. Anything higher than 4K will need to use higher gauge wire like what is included in the Kit # BDW20207 that I mentioned. If you let...

  • Wiring Needed to Power Dump Trailer Directly From Truck Battery
A 24 foot power and ground wire kit part # BDW20207 would be a great solution for the wiring on the vehicle side of the setup and then from there to the battery on the trailer we have shorter kits like the part # BDW20205.

  • How to Choose Winch Capacity and Parts Needed for Quick Connect Winch Wiring
Long story short, that's not going to work for you even with a double line pull using a snatch block like the # CU881079. In reality, you need at least 1.5x the GVWR of your vehicle when it comes to winch capacity. The # BDW10044 I mentioned as a better choice would be the bare minimum you'd be able to get away with and still be able to recover your 2019 Nissan Frontier from a situation that required a winch. The 6000-lb capacity ComeUp # CU854768 is not going to work with your 4700-lb...

  • Can 14/2 Wire be Used to Power Winch from Truck Battery
You will not want to use 14/2 wire to supply power to your winch as that is 14 gauge wire which isn't thick enough. Instead you will want to use a kit like part # BDW20205 or # BDW20207 which uses 2 gauge wire. Winches can pull upwards of 350 amps so it takes pretty heavy-duty wiring.

  • How do I Wire a 12,000 Pound Badland Winch to My Trucks Battery?
Hello Steven. I am not familiar with that brand as we do not carry it. I know that with our Bulldog winches there are different options to how you would like to hook it up. Like the # BDW66FR comes with one positive wire to run to the battery and then unit grounds itself through the mounting. With the # BDW66FR you could always add another wire to use it with a stand alone battery. The Bulldog Winch Heavy-Duty Series Off-Road Winch # BDW94FR comes wired ready to hook up to a stand alone...

  • Can Winch Be Powered With Vehicle 7-Way
Hi David; the 7-way on your truck isn't able to handle a winch. There is too much of a power demand for that circuit to handle. If you don't want to put a battery on your trailer you can run a separate line from your vehicle battery using the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit - Quick Connect to Terminal End - 2 Gauge - 24' Long # BDW20207. This will set you up with a quick connect at the rear to hook up your winch when you want to use it.

  • Wiring Needed To Operate Winch On Trailer From Truck Battery
You are going to need a kit like the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207 to carry enough power to run a winch on your trailer. The Redarc MC4 Output Cable # RED48VR is much to thin to carry the amount of power needed to run your winch and would burn up. The kit above would allow you to attach the wiring to your truck. We also have the Bulldog Winch Booster Cable Set # BDW20197 if you do not want the wiring installed on your truck.

  • Solution for Connecting Trailer Winch to Tow Vehicle Battery
I have a solution for you to connect the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch # BDW10039 to your vehicle's battery, but it will not work well for you to connect the winch to the vehicle's 7-way connector. The highest gauge wire a 7-Way connector is compatible with is 10 gauge wire. A winch will use either 2 or 3 gauge wire for power. The best way to easily connect the trailer winch # BDW10039 to your vehicle's battery is to use a Winch Wiring Kit. With the winch's 12,000 pound capacity, you will...

Your 2011 Ford F-350 with a GVWR of 10,800lbs is the maximum amount the vehicle can weigh fully loaded. Depending on your configuration your curb weight is likely between 6,000-7,500lbs. Since you plan on using for a winch and mud will be involved I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH59FR. It has a maximum line pull rating of 10,000lbs. By using the Bulldog Winch Receiver Mount Kit # BDW20155 you will have the capability to move the winch to either...

  • Can an Electric Trailer Jack be Powered Using a 7-Way Connector on a Truck
The wiring on a trailer connector and the tow package wiring on a vehicle is not really rated high enough and the wire gauge is not large enough to properly power an electric trailer jack. You would want to mount a battery on the trailer and use it to power the winch. To provide a maintenance charge to the battery what you could do is replace the 4-Way on the trailer with a 7-Way, such as # H20042, and run the black wire from it to the positive battery terminal. This will keep the battery...

  • How To Wire Winch To Install On Both Back of Truck and Trailer
The Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit part # BDW20207 would allow you to power a winch from the back of a truck or on a car trailer no problem using the vehicle's battery. The leads attached to the quick connect would go from the winch to the battery on the vehicle. The other quick connect would then attach to the leads that come from the winch. This would allow you to move the winch from the truck to the trailer without any additional wiring. You could purchase an extra set of quick connects...

  • Powering Trailer Mounted Winch from 7-Way Trailer Connector
The wiring that feeds the 12-volt accessory circuit on the 7-way trailer connector is of insufficient gauge to allow enough power to pass through to run a trailer mounted winch. To provide power for your trailer mounted winch, you can either install a battery on the trailer to power it, or use a quick disconnect like part...

  • Why Does the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit Ground To the Battery and Not the Frame
In regards to the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit part # BDW20207, the length of ground wire is included to ensure a good ground on every application. The kits are not tailor made to any one particular application and not all customers will have a good spot to ground the winch x amount of feet away from the rear bumper. The issue you most likely ran into is that winches draw way more amperage than what the 12 volt accessory wire of your 7-way can provide. You would have needed something like the part # BDW20207 to power your winch. Your going to have to start checking all the fuses in the fuse boxes under the hood of your 2006 Ford F150. We don't carry any deep cell batteries but you should have no problem tracking one down.
