Video Transcript for White Grease Hitch Ball Lube Feature Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number 58117. This is the Reese white grease hitch ball lubricant. This lube is going to get applied to your hitch ball. It's going to reduce the amount of friction between the hitch ball and the socket of your coupler. It's going to help extend the life of your hitch ball and make connecting and disconnecting much easier. The lube is going to be a non-toxic white grease that's designed so it won't break down.

It's also water resistant. It's going to come packaged in a four ounce container. By having the hitch ball lubricated, it can help keep your locking mechanism on your coupler working smoothly and properly, which is also going to prevent corrosion and it can also help quiet the connection. That's going to do it for today's review of Part Number 58117. This is the Reese white grease hitch ball lubricant. .

Been using this for years but nobody handles it in this small town. Great stuff.

by:

So far, so good. Used it to tow my new 2013 Rockwood HW276 tent trailer home today. The 2" ball still looks like new after towing the tent trailer 30 miles.

by:

Great product. Stays on the hitch ball. Have use it for many years on my tow vehicle's hitch. Couldn't find it locally but found it at etrailer.com at a great price and reasonable shipping.

by:

Keeps the ball from rusting and galling, improves grounding to the vehicle, and quiets noise from the hitch. I have tried conventional grease in the past, but it pushes out too easily under the pressure in the hitch. This works much better.

by:

Easy to apply and lubricates well

by:

It's greasy, what's to say about it.Does it's job .

by:

Have used this product for a very long time, with excellent results. Lubication is a wonderful thing! I learned the hard way a long time ago when my trailer hitch ball was stuck. Had a hard time freeing up. Never used a lube before and this product is specific to hitch balls. No more problems. The price is the best here at etrailer.com. A jar will last many years.

Great, good stuff, specific to trailer bail

by:

As expected, this Reese hitch lube works very well to protect both sides of the connection. Used this before, and came back for more. I like it much better than bearing grease, which is what I used to use. I apply it on the ball and lubed areas of my load levelers on very large and regular sized trailers.
Certainly recommend.

Its ball lube... Certainly works better than bearing grease.

Reese White Grease Hitch Ball Lube is a good water resistant grease for all hitches. It will extend the life of your hitch by preventing binding, rusting, and galling. I always wipe the ball and hitch clean when I am done towing.

Still using the lube and it does a terrific job protecting the ball and hitch.

by:

Not much to say about grease. It is greasy. I've applied it about 3 times in the last year. I tow a 3k lb trailer about 2-3 times a month. Probably wipe more off putting the ball cover on and off than using it up but I'm happy with its performance.

Ive probably used about a third of the jar so far, it really goes a long way.

I brought this item to use on my Jet skis trailer,It was recommended by so many people ,Having used it on my trailer hitch I'm very pleased how it puts a nice coating and protects against friction ,its early days but i believe this will be a long lasting protection crease

Very well.Really is a good product

I looked everywhere for this product - so had to order on line.
ETrailer had the best price. This is the best lube for my ball hitch on my horse trailer. So glad I found it again. Thanks.

I do not ever want to be without it! Will order from you again when I run out. Many thanks.

by:

All items received quickly. All items fit and work actually better than I though they might! The 2-5/16 ball cover is not too tight but stays put. The ball lube is thick and stays put, as well. Hard to find both of these items locally. Thank you etrailer...again!

Still pleased with performance of both products. Both are currently in service today.

I own a 31ft Cabin Cruiser boat that weighs around 10,000lbs and the trailer itself weighs over 2000lbs. Every time I would pull the boat out of the water the back of my truck would squat a little and the trailer jack would occasionally scrape the ground. So I purchased this Hitch Ball and mounted it upside down so that the ball is higher than the bumper of the truck and now the trailer is level when cruising down the interstate fully loaded.

This Hitch ball is very heavy and completlely solid! I dont hear any noises coming from the hitch at all.

Etrailer had the best price around and will always contine shopping with them anytime I need any trailer parts

by:

This little jar of "stuff" has saved me many headaches when unhitching my travel trailer from the tow vehicle. Before I bought this I would have a tough time sometimes getting the hitch off the ball and also difficulty getting it back on. This lubricant makes it so easy to hitch up and unhitch. The only word of warning is to watch out for the hitch ball with your pant legs because it will leave a major grease stain on your pants if you rub against the ball. Its white going on but it turns black from friction I guess. It lasts a very long time too because you only need a very little bit each time.

by:

Great stuff. Keeps my hitch silent as a country night and has stopped any wear and tear on ball. A must have for any RVer.

Best buy Ive made in a while. Keeps things moving like a duck through water. It doesnt take much and the jar has lasted a year and still is 23 full.

by:

I have been using Reese Hitch grease for about 15 years. I have had very little wear or gaulding on any of the hitch balls or sway balls I have used it on. It is expensive grease but I like it better than colored grease that gets all over everything. At least if this gets on you, wipe it off and it does not show.

by:

The ease of making this purchase and to track to destination was as good as it gets for on-line shopping.

Product worked well. I used it this weekend to hitch/unhitch my travel trailer to my truck and even though the ball didn't slide out as easy as I'd hoped, it took less rocking back and forth than without the lube. I was told that these types of lubricants can collect a lot of dirt and make the situation worse, but I am willing to test that theory out myself.

by:

I did a search to figure out why my RV camper was not unhitching easily from the towing ball. Honestly, this was such a problem that we could not figure out and were weary of jumping on the hitch and trying to jiggle the ball to break free. What I liked so much about your company was that your company suggested possible reasons that the ball was sticking and offered several solutions. I realized that I was unhitching on uneven ground and that a lube might help. The lube worked exactly as you said. A very inexpensive solution plus we knew why it was happening and could reposition the camper. Product arrived quickly and customer service attentive. Good job!!

by:

Product worked just as it should: lubricates my ball joints, hitch and towing ball keeping them working as they should. Great price and very fast delivery.

by:

Love this product. We have used it for years. Haven't received the new batch yet since they sent a tail light instead of ball lube.

We have been towing a travel trailer over 30 years and there is nothing like a Reese Hitch. When we bought our newest trailer a 34’ tow behind we added the Reese anti-sway bar for more stability and safer towing. We have traveled 18,000 miles using our newest Reese addition and it has out performed our expectations.

by:

This is a must for towing, and less friction is always good, I use a B&W Tri Ball. It keeps the crome nice on an expensive hitch. then keep it covered with a hitch ball cover and no greasy mess.

by:

This stuff is great. I made the mistake of operating without it - don't do what I did and potentially damage your ball. Fortunately I just have a few nicks and scrapes from an older trailer I bought. The trailer used to stick on the ball when lifting it up, that's not a problem anymore. Make sure you wear gloves - if you don't it will be on your hands all day long which is a testament to the staying power of the grease.

by:

Good product, I first used it on a new hitch ball that I used to pull a 26' covered car hauler with for 600 miles. When I arrived at my destination I took a rag and cleaned off the hitch ball and found that I couldn't hardly tell that it had been used.

  • How to Prevent Coupler Noise While Towing with the Malone EcoLight Trailer Part # MAL53FR
There could be two reasons as to why you are experiencing excessive noise from the hitch ball and coupler on the Malone EcoLight Trailer part # MAL53FR. The first possible solution I have for you would be to add a good amount of grease to the hitch ball with part # 58117. If the hitch ball and coupler still continue to make nose after the grease is applied then it may very well be that there is just not enough weight on the tongue of the trailer as you mentioned. The most useful way to...

  • Trailer Coupler Will Not Release Hitch Ball Even After Lubrication
I see you have tried the usual fixes for a coupler that won't release the hitch ball - moving the vehicle slightly to potentially release excess tension on the ball, lubrication with WD-40 and even a little brute force with the pry bar. You can also first make sure the trailer is supported, and then remove the hitch pin from the ball mount and move the truck forward. This will ensure there is little or no tension on the ball/coupler. This will also give you more room to work and free up...

  • How Tight Should Trailer Coupler Be on Hitch Ball
A little bit of play is acceptable, the coupler should be tight enough that the coupler won't come off the ball, but not so tight you can't close the latch. I typically tighten the coupler up until I feel a slight resistance when closing the coupler latch, then I'll back it off slightly from there. Reese sells a white lithium grease that's conveniently packaged for use on hitch balls, part # 58117.

  • How to Clean and Lubricate a Difficult to Open Trailer Coupler
Hey John hopefully it just needs a good cleaning and lubrication. It would be noticeable if something was bent or broken and even then it probably wouldn't work at all. I recommend dousing your coupler in WD-40 a couple times. Open the latch and spray as much as possible inside the mechanism. Just keep working it over and opening and closing the latch while you're doing it. Coupler's like item # CA-5335-B aren't the easiest to operate because they get all kids of gunk and road grime in...

  • Trailer Coupler is Stuck on Hitch Ball and Will Not Release
First, release the mechanism that holds the coupler onto the ball. It may be a lever or a knob that has to be turned. Some require a dual action move where you would push back or forward on the lever while lifting up on it. If you have done this and it seems to be stuck then it is most likely a binding issue. You can try moving the tow vehicle and trailer forward or backward to release the tension between the ball and coupler. Binding can occur if the trailer and tow vehicle are not on...

  • Trouble Disconnecting a Trailer Coupler from a Hitch Ball
Hey Dan! We run into this problem frequently. The first thing I recommend doing is to make sure you jack your trailer as far up as possible when you're unhooking from your tow vehicle. Like to the point you lift your ball mount a bit. This will take all the weight off of the latch mechanism. Secondly, go ahead and use some WD-40 and just soak your coupler over and over again when it's disconnected and make sure you get into every corner and crevasse. This will clean out any gunk and debris....

  • What Would Cause the Top of a Trailer Hitch Ball to Wear Excessively After 300 Miles
If the ball is smaller than what the coupler requires then the coupler would be able to move around quite a bit and wear down the ball. If the ball is the right size then excessive tongue weight could be a factor. The trailer tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of he gross trailer weight. The ball you use will need to be rated higher than the gross trailer weight. You can also lubricate the ball so that there is less friction. Some ball lube such as # 58117 would work well for...

Yes, we have the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2061 which will fit into the factory bed mounts on your 2024 Ford F-350. This is my favorite option since it uses the folding handle rather than a small lever built into the hitch ball which gets covered in Lube # 58117. We also have a Offset Ball # GY43XR for additional clearance if you have a short bed. This would also require Safety Chain Loops # C60691 since they are not included like with the B&W option.

You will then be able to replace the hitch ball with a 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # C40030 Hitch Ball. • Why is it Important to Make Weight Distribution Head Angle Adjustment
Weight distribution heads are adjustable to get the spring bars level or just below level with the trailer frame. Depending on the trailer frame, the head may need to be set at 90 degrees, it also may need to be tilted down as far as possible to keep the trailer level. This will also depend on the weight of the trailer and strength of the suspension on the vehicle. Head angle affects bar tension. With too much spring bar tension the rear of the vehicle could lift. Not enough tension and...
