Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a weld-on safety chain retainer. This weld-on safety chain retainer has a removable clevis pin for ease of chain replacement. Also if you want to prime and paint this to match your trailer, you can remove that so that way it doesn't get primed and painted along with the rest of the unit. This unit has a load limit of 25,000 pounds.The retainer is designed to work with a 3/8 inch chain. It's constructed from tough forged steel construction with a plain raw finish. It features the easily removable pin right here so it does come with the cotter on the other side.
You have to bend that over to secure it.But with this installed and with your safety chain or your trailer chain connected to this, you can easily remove or replace a chain when and if needed. The pin is zinc-plated to you don't have to worry about rust or corrosion. That is a, it's about a 7/16 inch diameter pin.They tried them between 7/16 and 1/2 inch diameter. The tab, which is this portion here, this is your weld-on portion. This gives us and overall width measurement of of about one inch, overall length measurement of, I'm going to about 2 3/8 to 2 1/2 inches, and then a thickness measurement of about 5/8th of an inch thick.And that's going to do it for today's look at the weld-on safety chain retainer.

Better than grade 8 bolt, washers, and nut. Attachment is clean and simple. No more guessing if secure. Stronger than welding the chain. This passed the DOT inspection.
Love the safety chain retainer. They replaced a thin metal bar that held the safety chains.
I replaced the rusty/broken chains. And had the retainer welded on by a certified welder.
I feel more secure with the safety chains now, should I ever need them. They make it much easier to replace the chains, should I need to again.
Seem to be very well made and they welded onto the trailer wonderfully.
I think these weld on safety chain retainers are great. I'm not a fan of just welding chains on but I know that's the way some do it. This is a clean and more finished way of attracting safety chains. With the benefit of being able to easily replace or adjust chain length. Would recomend and will buy again. Big fan of etrailer!
These worked perfectly with the 3/8" safety chain already on my trailer, and the service from etrailer was outstanding.
These safety chain retainers are like the ones I have on a Big Tex Trailer, but I have to cut them off because they were welded to the bottom of the hitch. They are supposed to be welded to the side so if the trailer comes unhooked the retainers and chains won't get ground off by the road surfacing. I am not sure if I can salvage the ones on the trailer, so I got these in case I ruin the others.
These are a great way to upgrade or replace your trailers safety chains. These weld on your trailer. Be honest with yourself about your skills, this is a critical component, if you can't weld, hire someone who can.
Basic rough casting. Used a flap sanding wheel to clean and flatten them to fit the trailer well. Should be very strong and make future chain replacements a breeze.
Whole installation took maybe 30 mins even with my excessive prep.

Products I ordered were fine quality wise,but there was no packing material and the safety chains and these mounts beat my lights up and destroyed the box

I wish I would have know about these along time ago. Definitely a better way tan bolting or welding the chains to the trailer and the strength of the chain is maintained
These things are THICK & sturdy. Much more robust than they appear in the picture. No doubt I could hang my trailer from them. LOL
