I would normally recommend this for a situation like yours. It sounds like you picked up a 5 wire trailer connector rather than a 4 wire connector. A 4 wire trailer connector will only have a white wire for ground, brown for tail lights, green for right turn and stop and yellow for left turn and stop. There is no trimming required for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C98BR on a 2022 Mazda 3. The only thing we typically see creating noise after install is heat shields and mufflers. First check to make sure the light is grounded properly. That is typically what causes a trailer light to stop working. Especially when the light is an LED that doesn't normally burn out.
The light # C7493RTM that you referenced has a sealed lens that does not allow you to get into it. Plus the LED light inside it is not like a standard bulb that is easily replaced.
Try improving the ground first. That will most likely fix the problem.

The most likely explanation of this situation is that the hitch bent during transport. This can cause the bolt holes to potentially not line up when you try to install the hitch.
