Expert Answers about Salt Spreaders

  • Can I Swap Meyer Base Line Salt Spreader And Blaster Salt Spreader On The Same Truck?
  • Marcus, interesting idea. In theory, yes, both are 2 inch shank tailgate spreaders and could share the same receiver and wiring setup, so you could swap out Base Line # ME26FR or Blaster # ME48FR depending on the job. That said, the extra weight of # ME48FR may stress your bumper or suspension when in place, depending on which truck you have. Also, I think it would be a bit pointless to have two different spreaders for the same truck. If you sometimes do light and heavy jobs back-to-back,...

  • Salt And Fertilizer Spreader That Won't Rust Or Corrode During Seasons
  • Brenda, great question. The Meyer Walk Behind Spreader # ME43FR has a frame that is powder-coated steel, so it resists corrosion much better than bare metal, but it’s still wise to rinse it after every storm. The gearbox is fully enclosed to keep salt and brine off the gears. If you want maximum longevity, that’s where the stainless-steel # ME63FR shines (no pun intended); this one is basically the same and functions the same, aside from having heavier duty stainless steel frame and other...

  • Is Manual Handcrank Spreader Going To Work As Good As Battery Operated Spreader?
  • Bill, that’s a sharp question. The big perk of Meyer’s hand-crank # ME83FR design is reliability - no batteries to die mid-storm, and you control the output speed in real time. The gearing is smooth enough that one hand can turn easily, even with gloves on. Plus, fewer electrical parts mean less to corrode from salt exposure. Would you be using it mostly in freezing temps or for fertilizer later on?

  • What's The Best Way To Clean Meyers Handheld Plastic Salt And Fertilizer Spreader?
  • Good thinking, Frank. After each use, empty any leftover salt and rinse the # ME83FR with warm water - no detergent needed. Let it drain completely, then apply a light coat of silicone spray or other lubricant to the crank gear and spinner. That keeps corrosion from creeping into the mechanism. It’s also smart to store them inside during the off-season. (the body is plastic so that won't rust) Do you usually do a big cleanup after each snow storm or just once at the end of the season?

  • Can Meyer Salt Spreader Be Added To Kubota L3901 Tractor With 3 Point Hitch?
  • Brent, great question. You can absolutely run either the # ME98FR or # ME48FR on a compact tractor, but you’ll need Meyer’s separate 3-Point Hitch 2-Inch Receiver Spreader Mount part 36500 to make it work. It’s designed for a Category 1 3-point hitch and gives you the 2 inch receiver opening that these Blasters need. We don’t currently carry that mount, but Meyer lists it on their site. Do you already have rear remotes or a 12-volt feed for accessories on your Kubota? That’ll make wiring...

  • Comparing Timbren TGMRCK25D And TGMRTT35D For 2020 Chevy Silverado
  • Hello Ken, thanks for reaching out. Both of the kits you mentioned, the Timbren # TGMRCK25D and # TGMRTT35D are correct for your 2020 Chevy 2500. The difference is the 25D is a standard duty kit, while the 35D is a severe service kit. The severe service kits are intended for vehicles with a constant heavy load in the bed like a truck bed camper, or salt spreader. They are designed to be constantly loaded. The standard duty kit is more suited for towing applications like travel trailers...

  • What Is The Difference Between Meyer Hotshot Spreader ME43FR And ME63FR
  • Phil, the main difference is durability. The # ME43FR uses a powder-coated steel frame and steel parts, with poly carbon hopper, while the # ME63FR swaps all metal parts for stainless steel - so no chipping or rust, even with daily salt use. The # ME63FR also has beefed up parts that are heavier duty. They both have the same poly carbon plastic 70-lb hopper, enclosed gearbox, pneumatic tires, and adjustable gate control. If you’re spreading often or storing outdoors, stainless pays for...
