Video Transcript for Pollak HD 7-Pole Round Pin Connector Installation

Today, on our trailer we'll be installing the Pollak heavy duty, seven pull, round pin connector with Cable Guard, part number PK11702. Now, we already have our seven way wiring coming off our junction box. As well as, already having stripped some wire back that we'll be connecting our new seven-pin connector to. To begin with, we'll need to take the small set screw, as well as the relief strain screw loose to remove the center portion of the seven pin connector. We'll go ahead and pull out the center portion, as this is where we'll be connecting our wires. We're going to go ahead and show you a comparison of what was on the customer's trailer already. We'll be rewiring it exactly how the customer had it.

Now, depending on your truck's wiring your wiring may be in a little bit different order or the colors will go to some different locations on the back of the seven way. You'll want to test your vehicle using a test light, so you know which pin does which function. We'll go ahead and match each wire color for color with how the customer's trailer was already wired. Now, you will notice that the new plug we'll be adding a yellow wire in, as the old wiring on the customer's trailer only had a six wire plug and this new plug is a seven wire plug. Now, our extra yellow wire will actually go in the center, in between the green and the red wire, and just below the blue wire, which, is actually the very center wire on this plug. Now, that we have the wires connected to the new plug let's go over what our functions do on our particular trailer. The white wire is the ground wire.

The blue wire is the electric brake wire. The black wire is the 12 volt hot wire. The red wire is the left turn and stop. The brown wire is the right turn and stop. The green wire is the taillights, or the running lights and the yellow wire is the auxiliary. Now, we're ready to put the center portion of the plug back into the housing.

We'll simply pull the center portion back down into the housing, lining up the set screw hole. Next, we'll put the set screw back into place and then, we'll tighten down the cable release screw that helps keep the cable in place. With that done, that's all there is to it to installing the new Pollak heavy duty, seven pull, round pin connector with Cable Guard, part number PK11702. .

High quality compared to the plastic 7 flat pin connectors. Also a good way to keep people from borrowing your trailer.

I bought this as part of a rewriting project for my 77 Airstream Tradewind. What can I say - it works and it was easy to install. I've never made one of these before but after following some instructions online my problems were all fixed and I had lights and brakes. FYI, if you are using this for a 77 Airstream like myself you will need to connect the wires from the tow vehicle to this connector according to color with three exceptions: The yellow wire from the tow vehicle goes to the black connector on this plug. The black wire from the tow vehicle goes to the blue connector on this plug. The blue wire from the tow vehicle goes to the yellow connector on this plug. If the above doesn't make sense to you now (like it didn't to me) it will make perfect sense once you have this item in your hand. One more note about my installation - I had two problems that I was trying to solve with this. The first is that I had an "SH" meaning a short circuit in my brake lines. This same error showed up no matter what tow vehicle or what brake controller was connected. The second problem is that my running lights would not work on my camper, however when you connected my camper to another tow vehicle using my old 7 pin plug the lights did work. Strange, but we verified that the problem was not in my tow vehicle so the only option would be this 7 pin connector was somehow not working correctly. For what it's worth, the running lights would work on a 1999 Suburban and a 1997 Tahoe, but would not work on my 2004 Suburban. Anyways, I figured that I would at least try to use this item to make a new connector before taking it in for service and lo and behold once I got everything hooked up it all worked perfectly (the brakes and all of the lights now work). I couldn't be happier.

Comments
As a followup one year later, I am still VERY pleased with this connector. It still works absolutely perfectly without any issues. It turns out that my lighting issue was NOT the old connector that I had after all, but was an issue internal to the Airstream fuse panel. Ive since fixed that super easy to fix once the problem was identified but still this connector seems much more durable than the one that it replaced. I would buy this again if I ever need another one though judging from how it looks I dont think this one will ever go bad.

We had a truck that had a male side of this particular plug. We also had a trailer that needed to be wired up with the female side. etrailer had the parts we were looking for. Purchase was easy and the part fit nicely. Wiring was simple we just printed the PDF file easily found online. We did have to do some simple trouble shooting as our old connector had a 5 wire system but we figured it out. We've bought other trailer items from etrailer and have always been happy with fast service and fair pricing.

This is by far the best plug I've ever had. I go thru some of the most extreme terrain and conditions with both my goat trailer and camper while in the back country. This plug has not failed me yet. I should get a lot of years out of these.

Bought to replace the plug that came on my new Bush Hog 1812 that I hook to a Kubota M6040 . The plastic plug was damaged during a hookup of the mower. The Pollak replacement plug with the spring cord guard if far superior in construction. The coil guard protects the area that was initially cut. Extremely easy to install. The videos from the company are very helpful. The red wire on the Bush Hog goes to the Green wire hookup on the new plug. On farm equipment there is always some variations.

Used these to replace the plastic connectors on my tractor trailer 7-way cable. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. They were very easy to install, and I don't feel like I'm going to break my connector everytime I unplug my trailer.

This connector has been great. Its survived the heavy use of being on a local tractor trailer that s and hooks 2-3 trailers a day, 6 days a week.

Dear E trailer. Your pigtail was an excellent replacement for my Father's semi-truck. The existing plastic one was cracked and could have shorted out. The delivery was a day early and the online bills were easy to read and copy. Right now I wouldn't change a thing. Thank You. Jorge Hernandez

  • 7-Way Trailer Side Connector and 7-Way Vehicle Side Socket
For the Pollak HD, 7-Pole Round Pin Connector w/Cable Guard # PK11702 to be compatible with your vehicle, you will need the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Blade Plug to 7-Pole Round Pin - Nylon # PK12727 to be compatible with the Pollak Replacement 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket - Vehicle End # PK11893 you referenced. If you don't want the additional adapter, then I recommend the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End # PK12706 to work...

  • Connecting 12 Volt Pump to 7-Round Connector on Tractor
As long as the 7-round plug on your tractor has 12 volt power, you should be able to wire your 12 volt pump to the connector. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test your connector to make sure you have 12 volt power on what should be the center pin location. You will just run the power wire from your pump to a round 7-way like the Pollak HD # PK11702 and then connect it with the connector on your tractor. If you need additional 14 gauge wire, you can use part # DW07550-1.

  • Should the Blue Trailer Connector Wire be Hot All the Time
The only wires that could be hot all the time on a trailer connector are the 12 volt hot lead, which is usually a black wire, and, if applicable, the auxiliary power wire, which is normally yellow or purple. The blue wire is usually for electric trailer brakes and if it is hot all the time that would indicate a short. We have the Pollak HD, 7-Pole Round Pin Connector # PK11702. It features a cable guard to protect the wiring from becoming damaged at the plug. I recommend using Dielectric Grease # 11755 inside the connection to reduce wiring shorts and water damage. You can get the Jacketed 7-Wire # DW04914-1 by the foot. I recommend ensuring that the cord is long enough to not cause stress on the harness but not to long that it will drag on the ground.

Your heavy duty style 7-way is different than the 7-ways we normally see for two reasons. One reason is that the stop lights and the turn signals are on different circuits and because the 7-way uses round pins instead of flat blade style connectors.
