Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Trailer Connectors - PK11702 Review

Today, we'll be reviewing part number PK11702. This is the Pollak HD, 7-Pole Round Pin Connector, it's also going to feature the cable guard that's attached there. Nice, flexible. That way you can move your cable as needed and you don't have to worry about your wires being damaged. It's going to really protect them. It has the easy grip, finger pulls here. It's going to allow disconnecting to be very simple and easily done.

This is a heavy duty, standard 7-way plug. Again, with the cable guard. Nice zinc die cast material. Very strong. Very durable.

It's going to stand up well against weather and corrosion and rust. Voltage rating is going to be 6 to 28 volts. With a current rating of 40 continuous duty amps. Again, it has the finger pulls. It has the raised portion right here, it's going to allow you to know that the connection is successfully made. To run your wires through, you need to loosen up the screw here at the back.

You can kind of see in there, there is a little metal piece. U shaped. Undoing that screw is going to raise that piece up, so you can feed your wires through. You need to undo the set screw here on top. That's going to allow this portion to come out.

Make your connections to the back of this. Put it back in. Reset the screw. Tighten this back down, it's going to tighten the wires. It's also going to keep any dirt or moisture from being able to get in there to the connection points. Again, you have the cable guard. It's really going to protect everything. The finger pulls. Great system to have to easily to disconnect from the plug itself. Overall length, measuring from end to end, is going to give us a measurement of about 8 inches. That's going to do it for our review of part number PK11702. This is the Pollak HD, 7-Pole Round Pin Connector with a cable guard. .

This is by far the best plug I've ever had. I go thru some of the most extreme terrain and conditions with both my goat trailer and camper while in the back country. This plug has not failed me yet. I should get a lot of years out of these. 783626

Used these to replace the plastic connectors on my tractor trailer 7-way cable. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. They were very easy to install, and I don't feel like I'm going to break my connector everytime I unplug my trailer. 566679

This connector has been great. Its survived the heavy use of being on a local tractor trailer that s and hooks 2-3 trailers a day, 6 days a week.

Bought to replace the plug that came on my new Bush Hog 1812 that I hook to a Kubota M6040 . The plastic plug was damaged during a hookup of the mower. The Pollak replacement plug with the spring cord guard if far superior in construction. The coil guard protects the area that was initially cut. Extremely easy to install. The videos from the company are very helpful. The red wire on the Bush Hog goes to the Green wire hookup on the new plug. On farm equipment there is always some variations. 516250

We had a truck that had a male side of this particular plug. We also had a trailer that needed to be wired up with the female side. etrailer had the parts we were looking for. Purchase was easy and the part fit nicely. Wiring was simple we just printed the PDF file easily found online. We did have to do some simple trouble shooting as our old connector had a 5 wire system but we figured it out. We've bought other trailer items from etrailer and have always been happy with fast service and fair pricing. 445756

  • 7-Way Trailer Side Connector and 7-Way Vehicle Side Socket
For the Pollak HD, 7-Pole Round Pin Connector w/Cable Guard # PK11702 to be compatible with your vehicle, you will need the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Blade Plug to 7-Pole Round Pin - Nylon # PK12727 to be compatible with the Pollak Replacement 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket - Vehicle End # PK11893 you referenced. If you don't want the additional adapter, then I recommend the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End # PK12706 to work...

  • Should the Blue Trailer Connector Wire be Hot All the Time
The only wires that could be hot all the time on a trailer connector are the 12 volt hot lead, which is usually a black wire, and, if applicable, the auxiliary power wire, which is normally yellow or purple. The blue wire is usually for electric trailer brakes and if it is hot all the time that would indicate a short. I have included a link to our help article on trailer wiring that has numerous diagrams showing the functions of the pins for many trailer connector styles. You can't always...

Please refer to the linked image to see the different vehicle-side connectors and their common wiring configurations. To use your trailers that have plugs like # PK11702 with your F-250 you will need to install a socket such as # PK11720. • Connecting 12 Volt Pump to 7-Round Connector on Tractor
As long as the 7-round plug on your tractor has 12 volt power, you should be able to wire your 12 volt pump to the connector. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test your connector to make sure you have 12 volt power on what should be the center pin location. You will just run the power wire from your pump to a round 7-way like the Pollak HD # PK11702 and then connect it with the connector on your tractor. If you need additional 14 gauge wire, you can use part # DW07550-1.

  • Adapter for 7-Way Blade Trailer Connector to 7-Way Round Trailer Connector
There is an adapter for you that will allow the 7-way blade connector (sometimes called a 7-way flat) on your GMC truck to work with the 7-way round connector on your trailer. If you take a look at the accompanying photo, that's what your connectors should look like; if so you will simply need Adapter # F77R and you'll be set! I have added a link to a video review of this adapter for you to check out as well.

You are going to have to make the adapter you need. But you will only need three parts. You will need the part # PK11702 as a male 7-way round connector, part # DW04914-1 for jacketed 7-way wiring sold by the foot (you will need to order the quantity in the amount of feet/extension length you need), and then finally a 7-way female connector # PK11720. These three pieces will easily wire to each other to make the extension piece you need.

  • How to Make 7-Way Blade to 7-Way Round Adapter for Tractor Trailer to Use Curt Echo
Your heavy duty style 7-way is different than the 7-ways we normally see for two reasons. One reason is that the stop lights and the turn signals are on different circuits and because the 7-way uses round pins instead of flat blade style connectors. On the chart that you attached you don't have a dedicated brake output signal (probably because your vehicle normally tows air brake trailers) but you do have an extra NA circuit that you could use a brake controller with. • How to Make an Adapter to Go from Semi Truck 7-Way Round to RV Style 7-Way Blade on Trailer
Either way is correct. It depends on if you want to keep the semi-style 7-Way (if you need to tow that type of trailer) or if you will never be towing a semi trailer. If you need to keep the 7-Way semi active on the truck then you would need to make an adapter to get it to work with an RV 7-Way. For that you would need a trailer side 7-Way round, # PK11702, a converter, # RM-732, and a vehicle side 7-Way RV style, # PK12-707E. A semi-7-Way has separate circuits for the brake lights...

  • How to Make Adapter to Go From 7-Way of Semi Truck to 4-Way
The problem with semi truck 7-ways is that they have the turn signals separated from the stoplights so you end up with needing a converter installed on the adapter too so that the signal matches the trailer lighting. If this is the case you can build an adapter using the part # RM-732 as a signal converter. You will need a round pin male connector, # PK11702 and then the part # W787264 for a 4-way. Basically you will be splicing the converter between these two to create the adapter. The...
