The coiled trailer connector adapter I order was shipped the day after my order and I received this item quickly. Based on my smooth transaction with e-trailer, I would recommend this website to my friends. In fact this site was recommended to me by my son-in-law. 210730

I bought a new truck last year which had an electrical plug that did not fit my horse trailer. The Hopkins adapter that I ordered from etrailer.com was received in a very timely manner. It also was a perfect fit I just plugged it in and was good to go. I used it the whole year with no problems. I would not hesitate to use etrailer.com again. 775048

Super heavy duty. Perfect fit. Very well made and price is good for this product. My truck already had the towing package so the 7 blade end fit without any adapters, as well as the 6 pole end that hooks up to the trailer. Very satisfied. 222250

This is the strangest product I've run into. Besides being to short the six wire end has male pins. Try to go to any auto parts store trailer outlet even to e.trailer.com and find a connector that is mounted on a vehicle and it will have a male end on it. Who in there right mind would want to have a connector mounted on there tow vehicle with a pig-tail that comes out from the mail connector mounted on the tow vehicle. That's the only part I could find. So I went to an auto parts store and got parts and assembled my own cable that will work just fine. Besides it is longer and won't pull out of it's connections when making turns; the coil is to stiff for even a short distance. 187921

Great deal.... Thanks! I looked all over for this type of adapter. Very hard to find. Thanks to you I am spared the task of making a hard wire change just to pull an old hay trailer for my Dad. Thanks again!! 95921

Ask the Experts about this Hopkins Wiring

  • 7-Way Trailer Wiring Configuration
If either your vehicle or trailer 7-way wiring does not have all wires connected to activate all of the 6 possible circuits you can make that last connection to activate it. On the trailer side it is really easy to install a new full-functioning 7-way plug by adding a junction box like Epicord # 277-000141. This junction box includes a pre-wired 7-way trailer plug, like the one shown in the linked photo which is wired to the RV standard. By installing this box on the trailer you...

  • 7 Foot 7-Way Extension Recommendation
I believe the closest thing to what you want would be the 7-Way Connector Loop # 20027. This product is 7 feet long and would act as an extension for your 7-way connectors. Although it is longer than you said you needed you could loop up the excess and run a zip-tie around it to give you the right length.

  • Availability of a 7-Way to 6-Way Long Cable Trailer Connector Adapter for Flat Towing
We do have some options for you. The wiring connectors you need are in our Tow Bar section under Tow Bar wiring, and then wiring connectors. You can use the RoadMaster Flexo-Coil Cable, # RM-146-7. It is 8 feet long and goes from a 7-Way blade to a 6-Way round. We also have the Blue Ox 7-Wire to 6-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord, # BX88206. This cable is 7 feet when stretched. Between these two, I would go with the RoadMaster cable because the extra length may be needed. I have included...

  • How to Tell if Trailer Has 6-Way or 7-Way Installed
It sounds like you have a 7-way blade connector on your boat trailer as that is a very common connector on boat styles. This connector has 6 pins around the outside of the connector and a center pin for a total of 7. Part # A7WCB would be what a 7-way would look like. If you had a 6-way it would look like part # PK11604.

  • 6-Way Vehicle to 7-Way Trailer Adapter Recommendation
We have exactly what you need. It sounds like you have a 6-way round connector on your 1999 Ford F-250 and need to tow a trailer with a 7-way blade connector. All you need is the adapter part # 47435. Check out the review video. The # HM47083 that you referenced is the opposite adapter you would need. It would be for if the vehicle had a 7-way and the trailer had a 6-way.

  • Trailer Brakes Do Not Work When Using 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter with a 2010 Chevy Silverado
The problem that you are experiencing is likely happening because there are 2 different ways to wire a 6-Way trailer connector. The brake output pin will wither be the center pin or it will be in the 2 oclock position, if looking at the face of the trailer side connector. Which ever one that it is, the other one would be the 12 volt circuit. Normally when this happens the trailer brakes will immediately lock up. But it is possible because you have a Chevy truck that the 12 volt circuit...

  • Wiring Up a 7-Way # 20246 to a Trailer without a Reverse Light Circuit
The center pin of the 7-way is the reverse light circuit, if your trailer does not have the need for a reverse light circuit then you do not have to use it. You would just connect all of the other wires and leave that one unused. To see how a 7-way typically gets wire up check out the picture I attached. You will want to wire the leads of the # 20246 by function to the trailer wiring. The yellow wire of the 7-Way # 20246 would not be used as it goes to the center pole.

  • Can a Trailer Battery Be Charged through 12 Volt Circuit on Hopkins Coiled 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter
Trailer wiring on a vehicle or trailer can provide a maintenance charge only to a 12 volt battery (if it is a regular car type of battery) but the wiring is not heavy enough, nor are most vehicle alternators strong enough, to push back the amperage required to charge up a 12 volt battery. If it is a small breakaway battery then it can charge it up. So as long as the 12 volt circuit is working on the tow vehicle and the matching 12 volt circuit on the trailer side is connected to the...

  • Troubleshooting 6-Way to 7-Way Trailer Adapter Where Functions Arent Working Correctly
It is very likely that your 6-way is not wired for the 6-Pole to 7-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47435. Trailer wiring with 6-way connectors can have two ways the brake and hot are wired, so it is likely the 12V hot and brake output wires are not in the correct locations, which is easy to switch. This adapter is made for the 12v power to be the center pin of your 6-way and the pin in the 10 o'clock position for the brakes. You can verify this using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993....

  • 2 Foot Long 6-Way Vehicle to 7-Way Trailer Connector Adapter
A 6-Way to 7-Way adapter is not all that common but we have a few. But they are not 2 feet long. The closest we have is # 47435 which end to end is around 12 inches but the wiring part between the 6 and 7-Ways is 6-1/2 inches long. What you could do is use # 50-87-004 which is 4 feet long but can be trimmed down to 2 feet. You would just need to add a trailer side 6-Way, # PK11604.

You could order it in a quantity of 38 feet and you'd get a 38 foot long section of 7-way wiring you could then wire to the 7-way connectors you need like the # 54-77-003 for the plug end or the part # HM48480 for the female side.

  • Should Trailer Batteries for Powering Trailer Jack and Breakaway Kit Be Separate
You will need a second battery to power the lights and jack you mentioned as the breakaway kit battery would not be strong enough for that and since it has to be fully charged at all times you would not want to have any other circuits draining it. You can charge it and the breakaway battery at the same time though with the same charge wire from your junction box.

  • Do Hopkins Trailer Wiring Adapters # HM47083 and # 47549 Do the Same Thing
Both of the Hopkins wiring adapters you referenced, parts # HM47083 and # 47549, will plug into a vehicle side 7-way socket and convert that connector format to a 6-way round-pin type. The main difference is that part # HM47083 includes a coiled cable that is 3-feet long when stretched fully while the # 47549 is just the adapter portion without the extension cable. Another difference is pin configuration. Usually 6-way connectors use the center pin for the trailer's 12V power feed. This...

We have the part # 277-000143 which is a 7-way that has an 8 foot long lead that would work well.
