Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - HM47065 Review

Today we're going to review part number HM47065. This is the Hopkins Endurance Flex Coil, 7-way Blade to 4-way Flat Adapter. This adapter is used to connect the 7-way on your vehicle to a 4-way flat connector on your trailer. Being coiled like this it keeps the wires from dangling on the ground, preventing any damages or shorts. It is a heavy-duty, coiled cable with weather-proof jacketing. They do use the tin-plated terminals on the connectors for corrosion resistance. It stretches up to about 3 feet in length.

If you notice, it has the nice, easy-grip, heavy-duty connector, so when you use it you can grip it like this, plug it in or remove it, either way makes it very easy. Also on the 4-way end it has a nice dust cover that when you're not using it you can just flip the dust cover on to protect the terminals. That should do it for the review on part number HM47065 the Hopkins Endurance Flex Coil, 7-way Blade to 4-way Flat Adapter. .

haven't hook it up yet. Looks like this solves the extra wire cable to light up the cargo carrier. No more wire cable hitting the road surface and no more cable wrappings around the long trailer hitch. 572749

The tow-harness and components appears quite well made. Fit was perfect, installation was easy, and tested and worked the first time. The instructions, however, may have been more specific to earlier Pilots, thus were not entireley clear and caused some delay in installation. 404382

Products were delivered with very short wait time. Adapter cable HM47065 is a replacement of the original cable purchased for towing in 2012. Socket HM48480 is a replacement of the socket that was on the motor home when purchased used in 2012. They haven't been installed yet, but I don't expect any issues. Thanks 816032

  • Coiled 7-Way to 4-Way Recommendation for Towed Vehicle
Yes, we have the Wesbar # 787196 which is an 8 foot long 7-way to 5-way. I know you need a 4-way but this will work well as the fifth circuit would just not be used.

  • Connecting 4-Way Flat on Jeep to 7-Way on Camper
I do have a solution for you, however the Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter # HM47065 won't work to connect the 4-Way flat on your Jeep to the 7-Way on your new camper. This is because the 4-Way on your Jeep will be the female end of the connector, which is identical to the 4-Way on this adapter. The male end will be on the trailer side. This just means the adapter won't physically plug into your setup because they are matching, instead of corresponding/compatible, plugs. To...

  • 7-Way to 4-Way Adapter Recommendation
I have a better solution for you, but technically the part # HM47065 that you referenced would work go from a 7-way to a 4-way connector. What would be a better solution would be the part # PK12716. This will plug right into your 7-way and will allow you to connect your 4-way to it.

  • Trailer Junction Box Installation on Trailer to Avoid Use of Wiring Adapters
Sometimes trailer wiring adapters do cause odd behavior from vehicle lights, trailer lights or both. It is often better to do an actual re-wiring of the trailer to match the vehicle's connector so that adapter complications are avoided. Fewer connections are also generally more reliable. A 7-way junction box like # 277-000141 mounts to your trailer frame and includes a 7-way cord and plug. Simply cut off the existing trailer 4-pole connector and apply ring terminals like # 44-5310A to...

  • Will Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer 7-Way to 4-Wire Adapter # HM47065 Activate Brakes on Trailer
The Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer 7-Way to 4-Wire Adapter # HM47065 is intended to plug in to a tow vehicle 7-way socket, take its lighting signals only (not a brake signal or 12V power) and route them to the 4-pole flat connector. When an adapter reduces the number of wires it also reduces the number of electrical circuits and therefore the number of functions. A trailer with electric brakes will need to have at least a 5-pole wiring harness (one more wire to provide one more function)...

  • 7-Way to 4-Way Adapter for a 2016 Honda Pilot with Factory 7-Way Trailer Connector
You could use 7- to 4-Way adapter # HM47065 if you need the extra 3 feet of length the coiled cable provides. If you do not need the extra length you could use adapter # PK12716 and the trailer's 4-Way would plug into the back of it (which would be plugged into the 7-Way). I have linked video reviews of both adapters for you.

  • Are RV 7-Way to 4-Pole Wiring Adaptors Vehicle-Specific
Trailer wiring adapters like Hopkins # HM47065, Pollak # PK12716 and Hopkins # HM47365 are not vehicle-specific products. They will work on any vehicle that has the appropriate connector. The coiled wire adapter # HM47065 that you referenced combines a trailer-side (male) 7-way RV-style plug (that mates with the 7-way socket on your Ram 3500) with a vehicle-side 4-pole flat type plug. This wiring adapter carries only lighting signals (stop, turn and tail) but not other functions like...

  • Is Hopkins # HM47065 7-Way to 4-Pole Adapter Compatible with 2015 Toyota Tacoma
The Hopkins # HM47065 is not a vehicle specific item, it will work in the 7-way of any vehicle and allow a trailer or flat towed vehicle with a 4-pole flat connector to receive lighting signals from the tow vehicle. The # HM47065 would typically be used for flat towing a vehicle, while an adapter like part # PK12716 would usually be used for a trailer. To add a 7-Way trailer connector to your 2009 Pontiac Montana with a 4-Way you will need # 37185. Your 4-Way will plug into this adapter's mating 4-Way. You will need to ground the white wire to the van frame. This adapter has both a 4- and 7-Way connector so you will retain the use of the 4-Way. • Available 7-Way to 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapters
We do offer trailer wiring adapters that can allow connecting different wiring formats such as a 4-pole and a 7-way. But as you noted, if you convert 7-way vehicle wiring down to 4-pole trailer wiring you do naturally lose 3 circuits: 12V auxiliary power, reverse lights and trailer brake power. All such adapters are shown on the linked page. I suggest using a cable type adapter like # HM47065 since it provides strain-relief, unlike the solid adapters such as # PK12716.
