Getting your trailer balanced can be tricky, but the True Tow makes it simple. The hitch has a built-in scale that shows your exact tongue weight, so you instantly know if you’re in the proper 10–15% range of your gross towing weight. Then the free app walks you through entering your setup’s weights and measurements to calculate your target distributed tongue weight. Just adjust the lead screw on the hitch head until the scale shows that number — no guessing, no trial and error, just a balanced and steady tow.
Sway from passing semis or strong crosswinds can turn towing into white-knuckle driving. Every trailer setup sits a little differently, and the True Tow makes it easy to line yours up just right. The 2-1/2" shank offers a maximum 10" drop and 11" rise with 1-1/4" incremental height adjustment, so you can fine-tune for a level ride. It fits trailer frames up to 6" tall and positions the sway control brackets 27"–32" back from the coupler for optimal support.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Weigh Safe True Tow weight distribution hitch. Now, this weight distribution system's shank is going to slide into your 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. And this system is going to give you a smooth, even, and safe ride while towing. Now, this is going to make balancing your load super easy so you don't have to worry about poor handling.
This is going to help correct sway from passing semis and harsh winds with the built-in tension points and friction points. Now, the tongue weight is going to be 1,250 pounds and the maximum towing weight is gonna be 12,500 pounds. And this shank is going to give you a maximum drop of about 10 inches in this orientation. And then when you flip this over to the rise position, you're gonna get a maximum rise of about 11 inches. And this has an incremental height adjustment of 1-1/4 inches.
So as you probably know, the most important thing you can do to ensure a safe, smooth ride while towing is making sure that your tongue weight is evenly distributed. But by getting that evenly distributed, it can be kind of difficult depending on your trailer and depending on everything that you have loaded in your truck, you may not be able to adequately redistribute your weight on your own. That's where a system like this, a weight distribution system comes into play. Setting this up is going to be pretty easy. You're going to hook your trailer up to this included stainless steel 2-5/16 inch hitch ball here on the system head.
And then you're going to take note of the weight on the built-in scale to make sure that your tongue weight is in that sweet spot of 10% to 15% of your gross towing weight. And then you're going to use the companion app that Weigh Safe provides that you can download free on your smartphone's app store. You'll download that app and answer a few questions on it. And then the app will give you an exact distributed tongue weight. Then you're gonna hook up the spring arms so that the system is fully in place.
And this does come with this tool to allow you to lift up the arms or these bars into place. And then the other side here is going to allow you to adjust the lead screw here on the head to get in to get that measurement that you're looking for, that distributed tongue weight number that the app gave you. So as you can see, it's gonna be very easy to set this up and to dial in exactly what you need. And the sway control bracket positioning back from center of the coupler is going to be from 27 inches to 32 inches. And the maximum trailer frame height is six inches. Now, if you have trailer frames that are taller than six inches, such as eight inches, on your screen, I am including our part number for those eight inch tall brackets for the eight inch tall frames. And the pinhole diameter is 5/8 of an inch. And again, this is a 2-1/2 inch shank. And hitch lock is included with this system as well. So this is designed to obviously secure this to the back of your vehicle. And this system is constructed of high strength steel, so this is gonna be very durable. It's gonna hold up very well for you. I mentioned that the ball is stainless steel. This is V5 and J684 certified for safety. And a final note is some bulldog-style sleeve lock couplers may not work with this system because of the limited space between the hitch ball and the lead screw in the system head. There's approximately 2-1/2 inches between the screw and the center of the hitch ball, just so you're aware of that. I’m a bit surprised to hear that, Caleb. I’ve personally installed quite a few of these, and I’ve been impressed with how well the Weigh Safe system performs. This makes me think there may be something else going on. Do you know your trailer’s total loaded weight and your loaded tongue weight? Ideally, tongue weight should be around 10–15% of the total trailer weight. If the trailer isn’t loaded correctly, even the best weight distribution hitch won’t be able to fully control sway.

I’ve now towed twice across the United Statesin all kinds of wind and weather. I like that I can measure and keep an eye on the rouge weight. We haul a 33’ ORV Blackstone which has a GVWR of 11,000 and we average around 9,840, with a tongue weight of 1500 due to the trailers wheel base design is long being a rear kitchen unit. On my F250 I can have a GCWR of 21,800 and Max Payload of 3,233. The truck handles the trailer quite well. That said the hitch also works well 90 of the time. No problem with hills and backing, or passing Semis. I due wish there was a bit more control in heavy side winds I experience traveling primarily north and south in the fall. We travel from Western NY in September to Michigan, then south to the Carolinas, and across country to Yuma Arizona over a couple months, then North into Montana and then again back to NY. The hitch is a beast and its heaver capacity over my old hitch is a definite improvement. I do recommend the hitch but be totally aware of your vehicles tow capacity and limitations.

I like this hitch but it is very heavy, the head weights 70 pounds by itself so if you have a bad weak back, this probably isnt the hitch for you. I do recommend getting a hitch connecting tool, it attaches to the ball and assists ing into the truck receiver.

Hey George, we definitely understand the frustration with the app compatibility and difficulty reaching support for assistance. The good news is the hitch does not rely on the app to function. The gauge and weight distribution system are mechanical, so you can still set it up correctly without the app. The method to set it up the traditional way: Measure the front wheel well height before hooking up Hook up the trailer Tighten the WDH until the front suspension returns close to unloaded height That restores proper front axle weight and gets the hitch adjusted correctly regardless of what the app says.
