Getting your rig balanced has never been easier!

The most important thing you can do to ensure a safe, smooth ride when towing is making sure that your tongue weight is evenly distributed. If the balance is off, well, you've probably been there before, bouncing all over the road and getting pulled in every different direction. Simply put, when your load isn't properly distributed, your steering goes kaput.

Getting things just right can be a huge pain. First of all, depending on your trailer (and everything loaded into your truck), you may not even be able to adequately redistribute your weight on your own. You might just plain need a weight distribution system to help.

Diagram showing weight distribution on a truck and towing a camper

Standard weight distribution systems can be a bear. You need to manually tweak and adjust every little thing, and even then, there might be so much play in the setup that you'll still have issues with handling. The go-to for picking up that slack is typically adding sway control, but that can lead to other issues, like not being able to back up or tow in the rain.

The True Tow is designed to make solving these problems as simple as possible. No more fiddling around with hard-to-adjust parts. No more guesswork when setting things up. No more terrible sway on the highway. Just follow the setup process to get a perfectly balanced system and hit the road.

The setup steps are easy:

1. Hook your trailer up to the ball on the system head.

2. Take note of the weight on the built-in scale to make sure your tongue weight is in that sweet spot (10% to 15% of your GTW).

3. Pop into the companion app on your phone and answer a few questions, then wait for the app to give you an exact "distributed tongue weight."

4. Hook up the spring arms so the system is fully in place.

5. Adjust the lead screw on the hitch head until the scale shows the "distributed tongue weight" that the app had you shoot for.

Once you've completed all the steps, just make sure all your connections are secure and head out on your journey!

Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe Weight Distribution Hitch - WD With Sway Control - WS24RR

Hello everybody, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution set up with a two inch shank with a eight inch drop or eight and a half inch rise rated to 18,500 pounds gross towing weight. And folks, as you probably already know, weight distribution will give you a smooth even and even a safe ride while you're towing by balancing out your load and keeping everything straight. Now, with this Weigh Safe Kit, having the scale built in here, it's gonna make balancing your load even easier and we don't have to worry about poor handling, you're gonna correct the sway you from passing semis, harsh crosswinds, those kind of things, using both tilting heads here and friction on the bars themselves. Now you do, again, get the built-in scale, so that's gonna make it easy to read your tongue weight scale. Now what you're gonna do is have a sweet spot of about 10 to 15% of your total gross trailer weight and then you'll adjust your load accordingly based on your tongue weight and potentially the head screw here.

So that's as simple as using your lift tool here that has a built-in wrench on it and then you'll be able to either go in or out, forward or reverse, whichever you wanna word it, to then get that head tilt to the proper angle and the proper weight as well. Now, that's gonna give you a peace of mind on your journey when you're towing, and some other key features while we're over here on this end, you get a built-in lock with this with two keys that are tubular shape versus flat. So, in my opinion, it's just a lot more better, it's not gonna be easily pickable, those kind of things and this is a stainless steel hitch lock along with the stainless steel hitch ball. They're both gonna be rust proof and built to last. This hitch ball is a two and five 16 inch.

The tongue weight's rated at 1,850 pounds. Again, the max towing weight, our gross towing weight is 1,850. Now this whole system is V5 and J684 certified for your safety. Now, everything as you can see is a nice black powder coat finished on it, it's heavy duty steel, it's been made to withstand the elements. Now, coming over here, you've got your lift brackets that mount onto your trailer frame.

Now, you want those to be from the center of the ball down to the side of your frame, between 27 and 32 inches per the manufacturer's instructions. Now, that being said, as far as the heighth, they're gonna fit six inch heighth trailer frames. We do offer a kit sold separately that would give you an eight inch on the brackets themselves. Again, that bracket only is sold separately. You're gonna get the six inch ones with the kit.

Now, again, this shank has an eight inch drop or a heighth of eight and a half inches if you flip it over and use it in the rise position. Now folks, this whole kit here is a very nice kit, again, from Weigh Safe If you've never used weight distribution before, I highly recommend you watch some of our other videos on our website here, read the literature. You're gonna get a QR code here on this product from Weigh Safe, that's gonna give you access to their instructions, their app. With that app you can download and put in your trailer weight, measurements, those kind of thing and it's gonna give you a pretty good area of where you wanna start as far as that sweet spot, if you will, on your tongue weight. So check into that, make sure you're reading that thoroughly. The lift tool here, again, you're gonna be lifting these bars up in place and keep in mind, a lot of this stuff's gonna have spring tension on it. So read the instructions, make sure you're doing it safely and again, everything here is powder coated, it's gonna last a long time for you. Well folks, that's gonna wrap it up. Just a quick look today together at our Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution. Again, the two inch shank with an eight inch drop. I'm Steven, as always, stay safe while you're towing.

  • Does Weigh Safe True Tow Restrict Turning
Hi Scott; weight distribution like the Weigh Safe True Tow # WS84RR will impact your ability to turn. The Weigh Safe specifically requires disconnecting the spring arms for any turn sharper than 60º. It doesn't sound like a lot but if you look at the diagram below you can see most turns probably won't be an issue. I wouldn't let it deter you from getting a great system like the True Tow. Also, this is the highest rated version of the system. Based on your GVWR the # WS24RR would be more...

  • What Weight Distribution System do I Need for My Toy Hauler TT With Tongue Weight of 1670 Pounds?
Hello Greg, I have an excellent option for you, but I’m afraid you’re right—the B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # BW53FR is designed for a loaded tongue weight of 600-1,600 pounds. Even if you are only slightly over this range, you won’t get optimized performance. I do have another weight distribution system that would be a great fit for your setup: the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS24RR for a 2" receiver (or # WS37RR for a 2 1/2" receiver)....
