Today we're going to review part number 390S. This is the Peterson Light Round Interior Dome Light with the Switch for enclosed trailers. This light is perfect for bright, general illumination of your trailer. It can be used as either a surface mount or a vertical mount. The unit has a nice, rugged polypropylene housing and a tough, flexible high-density lens that will flex instead of shatter and crack. The light right here is operated by this push type on and off switch. It does have multiple mounting holes in the base.
One thing you do have to remember that you do need to put a mounting screw right through here so that you can ground it, so you can get power to it. I am going to show you here, we're going to pop off the lens. You see there's slots, one there, one there, one there. If you just choose one of the slots, go ahead and put a flat tip screwdriver in and just twist it. That will pop the lens right off. You can see the lens comes off.
You can see the inside. As I mentioned, the mounting screw you need to put one right in here so that you get the good ground. It does contain the 1141 bulb that's on the inside. I do want to give you some measurements. I'm going to pop the lens back on, just like that. A few measurements on this.
The total width, diameter of the base is going to be right at 6-1/4". The height, or the depth of it, is going to be right around 2". Now what I'm going to do is we're going to hook this up to some power and turn off the lights just to give you an idea of how bright the light is and how it operates. We'll go ahead and hook the 12 volt power to the single black wire. I mentioned the ground, so I'm going to just use the ground wire.
What I'm going to end up doing is we're going to touch it right here to get your light. It's already on so I'm going to just turn it off. Then what we're going to go ahead and do, turn off the overhead lights, that goes off, attach the ground to the back there, and then here's your switch. You can see as I push the light up it gives you a nice bright light. Push the switch again, turns it off. Turn it on. I'm just showing you in the back here we're touching the main bracket here where your mounting screw will be to give you the ground. I'll go ahead and turn it off and I'll go ahead and turn on the overhead lights. That should do it for review on part number 390S. Nice lights, compact and easy installation
We've used these lamps for years for utility lighting in our technical rescue trailers. Rough service. Lots of dust. They have been very reliable. On rare occasions we've had to blow dust out of a switch, but these switches actually give us less trouble than those that come in higher priced units. We will continue to use Peterson lamps.
