Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Kia Sportage - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Kia Sportage we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Max EZ Loader trailer hitch receiver, part number 75717. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. As you can see the cross tube is completely hidden behind the bumper, so you're not going to have to worry about hitting your legs or your shins on it when you're loading and unloading the vehicle. It's going to be a class III. It's going to be 2" by 2", so it's going to be great for a lot of different accessories. This forward hole here is going to be your hitch pin hole. It's going to be 5/8 in diameter.

This back hole here is going to be for a J-pin stabilization device only. What that does is it takes the shake and rattle out of any of your hitch mount accessories. It's going to have a reinforced collar to give you a little extra stability on your receiver tube. It's going to have ring style safety chain loops. Gives you plenty of room for different size safety chain hooks. This hitch is going to have a pre welded plate for trailer wiring, and you're going to have a max tongue weight of 525 pounds, which is a downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube.

You're going to have a max trailer weight of 3,500 pounds, which is the trailer plus the load included. Now I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight, and you're going to want to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. Now you can use weight distribution with this. Your tongue weight's going to stay the same. However, your trailer weight's going to go up to 5,250 pounds. Now let's give you a couple measurements to help you in deciding on any hitch mount accessory you may need, such as a bike rack, ball mount, or cargo carrier.

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper will be about 5". From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube will be about 13". Now let's show you how to get this installed.First thing we need to do to begin our installation is we need to lower our exhaust. Before doing that we're going to take a strap, and what I like to do, and you can hook it anywhere. I usually like to hook it to the spring on both sides of the vehicle to support our exhaust when we lower it.

We're going to take some lubricant and we're going to spray our exhaust hangers here. We're going to have one on this side and we're going to have one on the other side of the muffler. We're just going to take a crowbar, or pry bar, whatever, and we're going to slowly pull that off of here. That, and we're going to do the same thing with the other one. Now we can slowly loosen our strap just enough to get out of the way of our weld nuts and our frame. Now because these are exposed to the elements, we're going to spray some lubricant in them and we need to clean them out. We want to make sure they're not going to strip out when we put our bolts in. We'll just take a brush. Toothbrush. Anything that'll clean them out. Then we're going to take one of our bolts, make sure you can thread it in there, and you're going to do this on both sides of the vehicle. Now with an extra set of hands we'll get our hitch into place. Go up over top of the exhaust. We're going to take our M10 bolt and conical tooth washer. You want to make sure the teeth of the washer are facing up toward the hitch. We'll get one of our bolts in to hold our hitch in place on each side so we can put the remaining hardware in. Once you have all your hardware in place, we'll take a 5/8" socket and tighten it all down. Once you have all your hardware tightened down, we're going to torque it down to the specifications in the instructions, and you're going to repeat that on all remaining hardware. Next we're going to put our exhaust back in place. Go ahead and spray down our hangers with some lubricant. It should just slide right on. Once you have your exhaust back up you can remove your safety strap. That'll do it for our look an install on the Draw-Tite Class III Max EZ Loader trailer hitch receiver, part number 75717 on our 2016 Kia Sportage.

The hitch is very high quality and easy to install, just four bolts. It arrived on time as expected. The customer service agent helped me pick the best receiver and I did not regret it. The customer service is excellent at etrailer. I intend to use them again for purchasing accessories. The online videos are excellent demonstrations too. 489128

KIA Sportage SX turbo 2016 Quick ship, well packaged. Fit well. I was concerned that none of the pix showed 2 exhaust outlets (guess only the turbo models get those?). No problem. Hitch can be slid slightly side to side for equal clearance both sides. No bending of anything required. I did stuff lots of grease up into the bolt holes and on the bolts. Here in Ohio we use only the best premium salt from under lake Erie, guaranteed to rust or corrode anything right away. I did notice the paint flaking off in a number of spots, no I didn't drag it over the concrete floor. Didn't appear to be any primer. Should have taken the time to strip and repaint after priming it properly (again the salt). This a Draw-Tite issue not etrailer. Haven't installed the wiring yet but the 3 videos indicate it won't be a problem. 565010

2014 Hyundai Tucson

This hitch was for my 2014 Hyundai Tucson. It arrived as promised and in excellent condition. The muffler needed to be dropped in order to install this hitch. No issues with that. A little WD-40 and the muffler popped right off the hangers. I installed this hitch by myself while lying on the ground. No lift, no jack stands, no additional pair of hands. I had asked my wife to come out to hold up one side while I attached the other. Since she was heavily involved in the 2nd hour of "fixing her hair", I continued on my own. I held up one end of the hitch with my feet while using my hands to bolt in the other end. Since half the weight was now supported by bolts, it was easy to reach over to the other side and install those bolts. In all, installation was fast and easy. Oh yes...my wife's hair looked great too. Thanks for asking. 125410

Were glad to know that the hitch install went well, even if you had to make it work all by your lonesome. Wed love to see pictures of the final result. Hitch or hair, either one works.

Its been a year since we installed this hitch on our Tucson. We use it for a 2-bike rack and it has performed as expected. I did need to install a collar to lock it down to stop movementbouncing. That works very well too. The muffler is very close to the hitch, almost touching, and I can occasionally hear them bump together under certain conditions. Not a big deal so I havent felt the need to modify anything.

Happy to hear you are pleased with your hitch and bike rack. If you feel that you would like to make some modifications regarding the clearance between your hitch and the exhaust please feel free to check out this informational article. Thanks again for the follow up and have a great day!

First of all, I must say how satisfied I am with Etrailer.com! Super-fast shipping (2 days!) and service personnel who KNOW what they're TALKING about! For me, relatively a novice at any DIY vehicle modifications beyond toolboxes, mudguards, etc., that was just what I needed. The prices are great too, as good as any you will find out there, especially for the package deal, which is what I got. I looked at buying a hitch locally and having it installed, and the cheapest I could get it done for was $450. Plus, I wouldn't have gotten a ball mount, ball, or wiring bracket with that deal. Here on Etrailer.com, for less than $300 shipped, I got the whole package WITH a stainless steel 2" ball. And, the valuable experience and satisfaction of doing the whole thing myself. The project installation videos on this website are INVALUABLE! Made the whole job much easier. Anyway, enough gushing, the hitch itself is of a much better quality than the one I used to have on my truck from the factory. That one rusted after a couple of years, and though fully functional, never looked very nice. I put this new one on our 2015 Kia Sportage, and the fit and finish are superb. A nice glossy black powder-coat on all the metal, plus, being a hidden-type design, it only shows the actual receiver opening below the bumper. Very nice! I was desperate to get a hitch on this new vehicle, since I traded in my F150 to get it, thus losing all my towing and hauling capabilities without a trailer. Now, I have some of that back again, just have to buy a trailer next. Fortunately, we have one at work I can use anytime I need it until I can get one for my family. I would definitely shop Etrailer again in the future. 214811

The draw tite trailer hitch fit perfectly on my 2015 Hyundai Tucson SE AWD. I had more troubles getting the exhaust lowered than I did putting the hitch in place. Installation took about 40 minutes doing it by myself, but I was also on crutches so moving around wasn't easy. 231243

This is one of the best websites I have ever visited. Are usually don't go for the sponsored websites on Google but I check this one out. First off the price of their items is 50% less work more than any other website I found. Secondly I've never seen a more detailed website especially in terms of instructional videos and step-by-step instructions. They literally have an instructional video for every model car, every year, and for every part that they sell that I could find. I might be off but they had it for all of the stuff I was looking for. To cap it all off, I decided to call in and speak to someone just to clarify I was buying the right thing. To my amazing surprise I got someone in the United States who spoke English and knew every detail about every item that was being sold to me. They even suggested I get the cheaper model of something because it actually was a better piece of equipment. When I finally received the equipment earlier than I said I would get it, I watched the instructional videos for both items that I received and it made this the easiest installation process of anything I have ever watched/done in my life. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this website enough if you're looking for anything that they are selling get it through Etrailer.com! ...and no, they did not pay me to say any of this. As a matter fact I rarely leave reviews but my experience with them was so good I just had to spread the word. 370160

Yes I still love your product and I’m still saying praises about you and your website to all my friends and family. The hitch is just resting out a little bit but I’m sure that’s to be expected with these type of products up north. Thank you so much for your continued help and interest I’ll keep spreading the word.

The Install of the hitch was exactly as easy as the video made it out to be, the hitch seems heavy duty, probably stronger then what my Hyundai Tuscon is capable of pulling. The [Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # 75717] for my 2016 Kia Sportage LX fit like a glove. ...and the video instructions for the wiring harness [T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # 118526] were excellent. Only 1 improvement from me: use a stiff rod to fish power line under the skid plate (vs. taking it down). Excellent products. 605743

The product is great. Strong and durable. Easy to attach. The only thing that would make it better is the fit with the pin. It is a bit wiggly, but it doesn’t impact the carrying of items too much. Would recommend it. 593905

I like the product which is a DrawTite class III hitch for our 2012 Hyundai Tuscon it worked well towing a motorcycle on a trailer about 1200+ mi. The included directions for hitch installation as well as those for the added lighting kit were clear and easily understood. Other than developing a method for raising the hitch up to the Tuscon's rear sub frame to allow for installation it was all strait forward. Great people that know their product, delivery was timely. I would do it all over again. 581148

I have a Hyundai Tuscon and this trailer hitch fits perfectly. My husband and I installed it, and even though we don't typically work on cars, it was easy. The only challenging things was that the rubber mounts are quite tight and hard to get on - but it's good because they don't rattle or slip. Use some lubricant to make it easier and it will save you some time. Also, props to etrailer, which provided me excellent customer service with questions about a locking bolt, and exchanged one that didn't fit right. I was very, very impressed and will be a customer for life and have recommended them to others. 525290

Still a great value one year in. Once you figure out the best configuration for the bikes, loading is fast. Everything feels secure, but I use a couple bungee cords to keep things tight and not rattling.

This is more a review of service than the product. I wanted to install a hitch on my Hyundai Tucson and had done internet research settling on etrailer to purchase the parts. I had chosen the parts I thought I needed, but was nervous about them being correct and if I had everything. I decided to call etrailer and just talk to someone. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Mark S. on the phone. He was friendly and so very helpful. He made some thoughtful suggestions and answered all my questions respectfully. I felt completely supported and never felt like he was trying to pull one over on me, nor did he talk down to me. This is my second great experience with etrailer. The first was an email exchange about their recommendation for a roof rack system. Again, the response was immediate, friendly and sound. I'm a confirmed etrailer customer from now on. 501947

The installation rating on this was a 3...should have been a 0!!!! It literally took us longer to unpack it than it did to install it on my 2016 KIA SPORTAGE!! I was amazed!! All we needed to do was to finagle it to go behind the muffler and BOOM!! Screw holes were already in the frame (thank you KIA!!) so just thread in and tighten down. It is also shorter than my old suv's hitch so it doesn't stick out passed the bumper so all our shins are now safe!! THANK YOU etrailer!!! 427159

I got the hitch for my 2011 kia sportage the fit was perfect took around 30 mins to install it the hardest part was lowering the exhaust the rubber hangers were tight I did have a buddy hold up one side and start the bolts as soon as I order the trailer light wires I'm towing my 16 ft boat but mostly it's for my cargo rack my main reason for ordering from this site was price I was quoted 700 from a shop to install one and this is a bolt on part I will order from etrailer again 375835

The hitch we purchased through the ETRAILER CORPORATION has worked fine, though it hasn't had as much use as I suspected it might. It has had a cross-country assignment, as we moved three bikes with it from CA to TN. Not a hitch... with the hitch. 366860

Product is exactly as advertise installation took me about 30 mintues with standard tools I had in my tool box. The hitch is very well placed on the frame bolts in to the factory provided bolts without issue. The wiring harness was also very easy to install. I just got the trailer hitch installed this weekend. Took about 30 minutes as detailed in the directions and the install was very straight forward. I did need a second set of hands to help lift the hitch into place. Once installed and everything put back in place, the clearance was perfect, should not hear any rattling. Will definitely come back for other hitches or lighting kits when they are needed. 272913

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Wiring for Using a Brake Controller with a 2016 Kia Sportage
  • If you already have a brake controller that connects via 4 wires, like the popular Prodigy P3 # 90195, then you will need a 4-Way wiring harness like the recommended T-One # 118526 and the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. The T-One provides the standard tail light functions from your 2016 Kia Sportage to your trailer and then the ETBC7 kit adds the 12V and brake controller functions as well. Attached is an installation of the T-One on a similar Sportage and the ETBC7 on a Kia Sorento for...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2014 Kia Sportage To Level Trailer
  • While we don't have a suspension kit I can recommend for your 2014 Kia Sportage I have a better option actually. As long as you have a Class III hitch installed on your 2014 Kia Sportage like the Draw Tite part # 75717 you can use a weight distribution system to level the suspension. This will improve braking and handling traction as well over a suspension kit too. Considering the weight capacities of your vehicle the best WD system will be the part # RP66082 which has a tongue weight...

  • Are Modifications Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2016 Kia Sportage SX
  • The Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75717 and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13120 are both confirmed fits for your 2016 Kia Sportage SX and will work well for you. They have a Class III rating with a 2" receiver tube opening. The process of modifying the vehicle for either hitch is a possibility but not always needed. The only way to tell for sure if you will need to do this would be to install the hitch, then reattach the rubber isolators to see how they...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Kia Sportage SX
  • I do have a hitch solution for you, but I checked Draw-Tite and they do not recommend the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch # 75717 as a fit for the 2011 Kia Sportage SX Turbo. For your vehicle you would want a Curt Trailer Hitch # C13120. This hitch is confirmed to fit on the SX Kia Sportage models and should work very well for you. I attached installation instructions for you to check out also. To complete your towing setup you may be interested in the following products: T-One...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation and Comparison for 2014 Hyundai Tucson
  • For your 2014 Hyundai Tucson there are a few options for trailer hitches. I would go with the Draw Tite part # 75717 as it has the highest capacities and best price but I can explain the differences too. The Curt hitches part # C13120 and # C13066 are both a fit too but these are different capacities. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4...

  • Easy to Use Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2011 Kia Sportage
  • I will be happy to recommend some bike racks so you can carry your bikes on your 2011 Kia Sportage. An increasingly popular rack is the BikeWing # B01311. Since this bike rack holds the bikes at the wheels it will work with many different bike styles. It is also light weight at just 12 pounds so it is easy to maneuver and store. Bikes with fenders or baskets on the back will not fit though. One of the easiest bike racks to load is the Kuat Transfer, # TS02G, because of the U-shaped body....

  • Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2011 Kia Sportage
  • I absolutely understand about wanting to go a different route other than something that mounts on the roof for your 2011 Kia Sportage. I would definitely go with a Class III trailer hitch, like # 75717. (With the Curt hitch you would have to use a stabilization strap # 18050 for non-trailer loads per Curts warranty requirements.) In addition to more capacity, you will have a wider range of options as far as what carriers you could use and a Class III hitch is more versatile all around...

  • Hitch and Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for 2012 Kia Sportage
  • Sounds like you are looking for a trailer hitch and bike rack for your 2012 Kia Sportage. For a trailer hitch you'll want the Draw Tite part # 75717 which is a confirmed fit (install video attached below). I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but also it'll be very easy to load bikes on since it's a platform...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2016 Kia Sportage
  • For your 2016 Kia Sportage I recommend Curt trailer hitch # C13120. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver rated for 525 pounds tongue weight at 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. To add a 4-Way flat trailer connector to the back of the Sportage I recommend # 118526. It plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring and connects to the battery to power the trailer lights. I have linked a video showing...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2013 Kia Sportage
  • Class II or III hitches are available for your Sportage LX. I believe Kia is telling your that your Sportage has a Class I towing capcity, which maxes out at 2000 lbs. The Class II hitches would have a 3500 lb towing, 300 lb tongue weight capacity, while the Class III would have the same towing capacity but a higher tongue weight capacity at 350 lbs. This being said, the amount of weight you will be able to tow will be limited by the towing capacity of the vehicle (which I wasn't able...

There is also another hole that will allow for mounting a smaller sized bracket, the spacing measured 1-3/4 inches on center. I took a look at the specs for the Aliner Scout and it weighs nearly 1,400 lbs, so you could potentially tow it if it had brakes and very little cargo. • Can Draw Tite Trailer Hitch for 2012 Kia Sportage Tow Small Rental Trailer
  • The Draw Tite hitch part # 75717 that you referenced has a capacity of 3,500 lbs trailer weight so it would pretty easily be able to tow a small trailer as long as you stay under that figure. I looked up the towing capacity of your vehicle and it looks to have a capacity of 2,000 lbs trailer weight so that would be the number you'd need to stay under. Because your Sportage is the limiting factor you will need to use a trailer to tow your motorcycle. • Recommendations for 2014 Hyundai Tucson and Maxxtow Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier

A hitch expander like # HES6 will work, but will limit the tongue weight of your hitch by 50% and greatly limit your capacity to carry cargo because the weight of the carrier also must be calculated in that equation.
