Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Nissan Murano - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2014 Nissan Murano we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part number 75647. No here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper we have about 5-1/2". From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground we have about 15-1/2". Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. Now we're going to begin our installation by going underneath the vehicle and installing a safety strap underneath the rear exhaust here.

Now with our safety strap in place we're going to need to remove a total of four rubber exhaust hangers to allow our exhaust to be lowered down a little bit to give us some working room. Let's go ahead and point out the four rubber exhaust hangers. We'll begin over here on the driver side. There's one here, one here, one here in the middle, and one over here on the passenger side. Now in order to remove our rubber exhaust hangers we're going to use a little bit of spray lubricant and a large pry bar. We'll then go ahead and use our safety strap to help lower our exhaust down.

Next we're going to need to remove the tow hook located over here on the driver side. There's a total of four bolts that will need to be removed in order to take the tow hook off. There's one here and here, as well as one here and here. We will not be reinstalling the tow hook, nor will we be reusing the hardware securing it. Next let's go ahead and point out our mounting locations that we'll be using to secure our hitch to the vehicle. There's a total of five mounting locations, three over here on the driver side, one here, here, and here; and two over here on the passenger side here, and here.

Now it's a good idea to use a little bit of spray lubricant and a tube brush to clean out the threads before trying to install your hitch. We're going to use a little bit of spray lubricant and the nylon tube brush we're using is part number 814092. You'll want to repeat this process at all five of the mounting locations. It's a good idea once you have the existing weld nuts cleaned out to take one of the hardware that you'll be using to secure the hitch and make sure that it threads in easily. Next let's go ahead and go over the hardware that we'll be using to secure our hitch to the vehicle. Now for the two rear mounting locations on both sides we'll be using a 12mm hex bolt and a 1/2" conical tooth washer, making sure that the teeth face towards the hitch when installed.

Now over here on the driver side, this forward-most mounting location, we'll be using an M10 hex bolt and a 3/8" conical tooth washer, again making sure that the teeth face towards the hitch when installed. Next we're going to need to remove the balance panel that's located right here. We'll need to take out this push fastener here, as well as over here. Now to remove them we'll use a flat head screwdriver or a trim panel removal tool. You just pop the center out. Then it will allow you to pull down the remaining portion. Go ahead and repeat that for the other push fastener. Next we're going to need to remove four nuts on the upper side of the valance panel here: one here, here, here, and here. To remove those we're going to be using a 10mm socket. With all four nuts removed we can go ahead and remove the panel here. We will not be reinstalling it. Next we're ready to raise the hitch up into position. Now it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position and get the hardware installed loosely. Once you have all the hardware installed we'll go ahead and center up the hitch and make sure everything lines up the way we want it. Then we can go ahead and tighten down the hardware and torque it to the manufacturer's specification. Next we're going to use the two supplied zip ties or cable ties. We'll use the tabs that we removed our push fasteners from. We'll go around the hitch and secure this fascia here. We'll go through, come back around onto itself. We'll repeat that for the other side as well. We'll then take a pair of snips or a razor knife and trim off any excess. Next we can go ahead and reinstall the four rubber exhaust hangers that we removed earlier. Go ahead and use our safety strap to help bring the exhaust back up closer. Once our rubber exhaust hangers are back up in place we can remove our safety strap. That will do it for our installation of the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75647, on our 2014 Nissan Murano. .

I went to the local "hitch install" store and was quoted a price of $350 to install a hitch on my Nissan. I am not very mechanically inclined so I would have let them do it on the spot but they needed to order the hitch. I told them I would call them the next day if that's what I decided to do. I then searched the internet and discovered etrailer. After seeing the pricing and reading the install reviews, I decided to give it a go. I ordered my hitch on Monday and received it on Wednesday. I quickly pulled it out of the box and crawled under my SUV. I had watched the video of the install 10 times so I didn't bother with the instructions. Everything went every smoothly and the hitch lined up and installed easily. It took a grand total of 31 minutes and although the video said the exhaust would need to be dropped, it didn't require that. I used a bucket and some 2x4's to hold the hitch in place as I started the bolts. Had I used a floor jack, I bet I could have installed the hitch in 17 minutes. I would highly recommend using etrailer to anyone needing a hitch. Greg 70957

Like others, I was able to install the hitch fairly quickly without dropping the muffler. That does require a socket extension. Some blocking to hold up one end of the hitch while fastening the other end to the frame is also required. As another reviewer noted, the hitch side which attaches where the tow hook is removed didn't line up exactly. I tried to spread it with a pneumatic spreader without success. Could have removed it and banged it out with a sledge hammer but decided that the two 12M bolts I was able to place on that side would be adequate and I might weaken a weld joint by banging it out. Took far longer to hook up the wiring than I thought it would, but I was also aiming for a factory-install look - zip ties everywhere, running the power wire under the driver-side rear storage compartment, etc. I would have liked a little more length on the wires leading to the 4-pin connector It only reached to the receiver after I fastened the wiring "junction box" to the car body underneath the driver-side tail light. With a drop hitch in the receiver, longer wiring on the trailer side might be needed. Could have done with less length in the wiring going across to the passenger-side tail light. Working the power wire to the engine compartment without a car lift wouldn't have been possible if I'd eaten lunch - not a lot of clearance under a Murano! I ran the wire along what I believe were brake lines. A straightened coat hanger with nylon cord and a person looking down from above the engine compartment to grab things as I passed them up from beneath worked well. While I was somewhat disappointed with the hole for the 10M bolt not lining up with the car frame, I believe the whole package is well worth the cost and would never pay what was being asked for the OEM alternative. 153604

Disappointed with delivery, ordered on Saturday morning and paid for a three day delivery because I needed it for a trip on Wednesday. When it didn’t show I called to track its delivery to find out that it actually doesn’t actually process u til Monday and shipped Tuesday and still didn’t receive until today FRIDAY. Might want to change the clarity of your shipping schedules. Now I have to make another 5 hour trip to make a delivery. Thanks Rick 575951

Very good instructions. Installation takes about 40 minutes and does require two people for positioning hitch into position. May need to re-tap a few of the existing bolt holes due to excessive rust on older vehicles. The draw-tite hitch hides nicely on the Murano. 614471

I'm a repeat customer because my first experience was stellar. Unfortunately, the 2nd time, not so much. The hitch came welded off kilter, so it didn't fit properly. When I called to work out a resolution, the call dropped to busy signal after waiting 5 minutes.....three times. I emailed to complain since they don't man the phones well and have had no response. After receiving the hitch, I realized I needed a wiring harness I forgot. They took my order/money and shipped it, but I have yet to receive any response to my defective hitch. Sell, sell, sell, screw the rest! 399572

Arrived two days early in perfect condition. Perfect fit and easy to install. Anyone with any mechanical background can do it with no problem. Like other reviewers, I was able to install without lowering the muffler. However, without lowering the muffler it's a little difficult to get to the screws started because of type clearance. Not a big deal though. The website video is helpful and very well done, although it neglects to mention that the tow hook bracket must be removed (the written instructions do). The hitch fits perfectly and the only thing visible is the receiver. Low-price, great fit, quick delivery. An overall fantastic buying experience! Don't bother looking anywhere else. 82801

Great hitch, fits perfectly under my 2010 Murano. I did a ton of research and this is pretty much the only “truly hidden” hitch I could find (a big plus if you want to make your wife happy by not adding bulky add-ons to your vehicle) you can literally only see the receiver head of the hitch when looking from the back. Installation was a hassle, but only because I tried to save some time by installing it without lowering the exhaust (like some of you suggested). Save yourself time and frustration and follow the instructions!, once I did, installing the hitch was easy, and get an extra pair of hands to at least insert the bolts in while you are placing the hitch. There was an extra piece of metal I had to remove that is not mentioned on the instructions, so if the holes don’t aling check that. Kudos to etrailer.com for the fast shipment, the instructional videos and lower prices. 69666

This hitch fit perfectly. I didn't end up needing to suspend my exhaust like the video suggests. A little bit of wiggling and maneuvering was all it needed. The instructions were clear and easy to understand. I received my order very quickly. This is my second hitch ordered through etrailer. I have had a great experience both times. 96405

That was the second hitch system I had ordered from etrailer. For the second time I was very happy with the service. The product was exactly as expected. All the bolt holes lined up perfectly and the installation video made installing the hitch quick and easy. When my parents were looking for a hitch for their vehicle I steered them to etrailers. Once again the product was shipped fast and installed without issue. I will return to etrailers for all my future trailer hitch needs as well as recommend your site to anyone I meet that is in the market. You guys do a great job.

Installed this on a 2011 Nissan Murano over the weekend and it went quite well! Very easy to do. I read the reviews here and knew it can be installed without lowering the muffler. What I wasn't sure was how difficult it is to get it into position without touching the muffler. It turned out to be quite easy. The driver side is easy to align, no blockage. The passenger side is slightly more difficult, as the muffler blocks it a bit. The trick is to simply align the passenger side first, and then the driver side. It is easy to do if you have someone helping you hold the hitch in place on the other end. Once it’s in the right position, simply screw in the bolts by hand to support the hitch, and tighten with a torque wrench to spec. I did have to remove the vehicle tie down from the driver side (4 bolts, two replaced by bolts for the hitch). I also needed an 6-inch drive extension to tighten one of the bolts on the passenger side. Works well, looks beautiful, and easy to install. What more could you ask for? ;) 89691

Great product, had no problem with the installatio It took a little over an hour, as I am older, 68, I am not quite up to the less than hour younger ones. Directions were good. All the parts fit well. Will be great to take the bikes to Flordia this year. Did not have to drop the muffler. Put in the passenger side first and then the other side and it worked well. Had to use a few braces to hold it up during installation. Another pair of hands during bolt up would have been good but the hold up braces worked well. You guys and gals did good. You had great follow up on order, on shipment and delivery I got an email for each, great service. And did I say my order was on Sunday and I got emails from a real person on that day and they upgraded my delivery so I got it early. Good thing as the snow is to arrive tomorrow in CT so glad I got it on. Pictures attached. Thanks again, Bob from CT 26288

Installed by myself, didn’t have to lower exhaust. Used another buyers advice and bought 12mm 1.25 tap to clean rust out of threads. Used floor jack to help hold in place. Everything fit as it should. Hitch worked great for my motorcycle carrier on back of the Murano. 570538

Easy to install, as promised. I've used this hitch a half dozen times since then. It's solid. Especially appreciate the wiring harness hook-up provided by etrailer. The lights work every time and then the harness just stows away. I love this hitch so much I bought one for my Mom as well! 716766

I gave a 4 star rating as I could only use 4 of the 5 bolts to mount the hitch. The M10 bolt was impossible to use as bracket covered the hole. 682355
